Las Vegas -- Ecast, a maker of Internet-connected digital jukeboxes installed in bars and restaurants, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Wi-Fi network provider Pronto Networks to offer wireless Internet access through its jukeboxes. The Ecast Unplugged service will allow bar and restaurant patrons at locations with Ecast jukeboxes to bring their laptops and surf the Internet and access email and instant messaging. The system will also feature a separate, secure port for connecting other broadband-enabled devices like ATMs, credit card authorization machines, business computers and coin-operated devices.

San Francisco -- Ecast and TouchTunes, two makers of digital music jukeboxes placed in bars and restaurants, announced on Thursday that they have agreed to settle outstanding patent infringement suits filed against one another. Under the terms, San Francisco-based Ecast agreed to pay Las Vegas-based TouchTunes a total of $4 million. The companies also agreed to cross-license each other's technology. Both companies offer products that download MP3 files over the Internet in order to update jukebox selections, unlike CD-based jukeboxes that rely on traveling reps to physically install new CDs in each jukebox in operation.

New York -- Performing rights organization ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) announced on Thursday that it has reached licensing agreements with digital jukebox manufacturers TouchTunes and Ecast, covering the rights to perform music from ASCAP members on their jukeboxes in bars and restaurants. Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed. Under the deals, ASCAP will receive detailed reporting information from both companies on which songs are played on their jukeboxes, in order to accurately compensate artists for their works. Separately, San Francisco-based Ecast said it has also secured a licensing agreement with the other large performing rights organization in the U.S., BMI (Broadcast Music International).
