Two websites that purport to clarify your choice for president in 2008 are making their way around the internet at viral speed. The first is VAJOE.com’s Candidate Calculator, which asks 24 questions and provides yes-no-undecided bubbles and an Importance meter, gauging how influential the issue will be in your decision. It’s a simple, straightforward survey, and at a minimum lets you know which of the many candidates aligns with your views. As of now almost 1.5 million people have used the calculator.

San Francisco - YouthNoise, an online social network for youth dedicated to social change, said on Friday it partnered with Veeker, a mobile-to-Internet video service, to encourage young people to upload video from their local polling stations, political rallies, protests and Election Day parties to the site.

Washington - HotPads.com, a free, rental housing search and listing service, said that it has launched its 2006 Election Edition, which provides information about this year's closely watched elections for the House of Representatives. The new service will help potential renters learn about the voting habits of different areas. The 435 congressional districts are outlined on the site's maps, with red and blue designating the party affiliation of the districts' current Representatives. Washington-based HotPads.com launched in September.

Los Angeles - A group of college students has created an online game where players create a "fantasy team" of U.S. lawmakers and compete to see whose team of policy makers is most effective, Reuters reported. The "Fantasy Congress" game was created with $5,000 in prize money from a school-sponsored entrepreneurship award. "If people cared about politics as much as they care about sports, we'd have a better democracy," Andrew Lee, a senior at Claremont McKenna College and a developer of the game, told Reuters.

Gaithersburg, Md. - Red Hill Group said that it has launched a website giving political aficionados the chance to express their opinions about who will win in November by buying and selling candidates in a virtual stock market. The site, CasualObserver.net, allows registered users to participate for free, sharing their opinions about who will win more than 70 of the most competitive mid-term Senate, House and governor's races across the nation. Users can "invest" in the candidates they deem most likely to win or lose, then follow the results online with real-time updates on prices and portfolio values. The site, which went live in September, recently launched a contest, awarding an iPod Nano to the top trader at the market close on Nov. 7.

Washington - HotSoup.com, an online community founded by a bipartisan group of political strategists said on Thursday that it has launched its social networking site. Plans for the site, geared toward people with thoughts about how to improve the country, were first announced in July. The site allows users to create profiles, publish messages, and post images. Its homepage features five panelists sharing their viewpoints on a single issue.
