the artist never authorized some 93 songs to be sold at the iTunes Store, the
Associated Press reports. The lawsuit from Eight Mile Style LLC says Apple was
wrongfully enriched by $2.5 million from the sale of the song downloads, and
argues that the publisher should share in iPod sales.

Activision (NASD: ATVI) said this week that it will release a special branded edition of its
forthcoming "DJ Hero" turntable-based music game featuring hip-hop
artists Jay-Z and Eminem, who performed together onstage at an Activision party
this week at E3 in Los Angeles. The special edition will include an advanced
version of the game's turntable controller, a metal traveling case, and two
exclusive music CD compilations featuring greatest hits and new mixes from each
artist. Jay-Z and Eminem have also committed to providing fresh downloadable
mixes for the game later this year.

Los Angeles - Universal Music Group has emerged the winner
of a lawsuit brought by producers of hip-hop artist Eminem's early recordings,
over the amount of royalties owed from sales of digital song downloads and
ringtones, Bloomberg reported. The case hinged on
whether digitally distributing a song should be considered a "license"
of the music to a third party like the iTunes Store, or treated in the same way
as CDs and other media -- as physically distributed product.

Detroit - Hip-hop artist Eminem's music publishing company Eight Mile Style Music announced on Friday an administration, technology and marketing agreement with Kobalt Music Group, an online music publisher, and licensing and administration company Music Resources. Under the deal, Kobalt's online music publishing administration system will be used to collect, process and track royalties for all worldwide territories outside the U.S. and Canada, while Music Resources will collaborate with Kobalt and use its online technology for royalties in the U.S. and Canada. Eight Mile principal Joel Martin said the decision to go with Kobalt came after comparing competing services and finding "compelling advantages in Kobalt's level of accuracy, royalty tracking and transparency." Detroit -- Hip-hop artist Eminem's publishing company has agreed to settle a copyright infringement suit it brought against Apple Computer, over the unauthorized use of an Eminem song in an ad for Apple's iPod music player. Eight Mile Style sued Apple, along with MTV, Viacom and ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day in February 2004, after an Apple iPod ad appeared featuring a ten-year-old singing Eminem's "Lose Yourself." Apple aired the ad despite having tried unsuccessfully to properly license the song from Eminem. Eight Mile Style attorney Howard Hertz told the Associated Press that "the parties were able to reach an amicable resolution." Financial terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

Geneva -- Rapper Eminem has won a cybersquatting case in the U.K. against a firm selling mobile phone entertainment at the domain EminemMobile.com. The World Intellectual Property Organization's domain name arbitration and mediation center found that U.K. resident Tim Mcintosh and his Visitair Ltd. registered the domain in bad faith, and was using it to sell unauthorized ringtones of Eminem recordings. The domain will be automatically turned over to the musician in 10 days.

Detroit -- Rapper Eminem's music publishing company has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Apple Computer, Viacom, MTV and ad agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, over the unauthorized use of one of his songs in a TV commercial for Apple's iTunes music download store, the Associated Press reported. The suit, filed by Eminem's Eight Mile Style publishing company, centers on an iTunes ad that aired multiple times on MTV in which a ten-year-old actor sings part of the rapper's Grammy-winning song, "Lose Yourself." "Eminem has never nationally endorsed any commercial products and ... even if he were interested in endorsing a product, any endorsement deal would require a significant amount of money, possibly in excess of $10 million," according to the lawsuit filed on Friday in District Court in Detroit.
