Los Angeles - NBC said on Thursday that it will make its primetime TV series "Scrubs," which is produced by rival Disney's Touchstone Television, available for purchase and download for $1.99 per episode on Apple's iTunes Store, Reuters reported. The deal marks the first time a series produced outside of the network it airs on has been offered on iTunes, which now counts a TV catalog of some 60 shows. Daily Variety reported earlier this month that NBC and Touchstone were near a deal for "Scrubs" that would see them split download profits 50-50.

"We believe we have a youthful and energetic cast that should appeal to a new audience increasingly comfortable with this downloadable format as a viewing option, and we want to reach out to these viewers," NBC Entertainment Group CEO Jeff Zucker told The Hollywood Reporter.

"It's been our strategy to exploit content across as many platforms as possible," said CBS CEO Leslie Moonves. "This is not only a boon to fans of the show, who can now watch it at their leisure, but it also represents a great way to generate traffic for CBS.com while opening a whole new revenue stream for CBS." Episodes of shows including "CSI" and "Survivor" will be available for $1.99 after midnight on the night they air, and accessible for a 24-hour period after they are downloaded from CBS.com -- unlike on iTunes, where episode downloads do not expire.

Los Angeles - Disney has sold 1.5 million downloads of TV episodes of series such as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives" and "Kim Possible" through Apple's iTunes Store, CFO Tom Staggs told an investor conference on Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The executive added that Disney is seeking iTunes competitors as additional distribution outlets for its Web-based video.

New York - Viacom's CBS network announced on Wednesday that it will embed a master recording ringtone ("Realtone") of a song from Capitol Records recording artists Coldplay into an episode of its drama "CSI: NY," and then offer the ringtone for download to viewers several minutes later. A ringtone of Coldplay's "Talk," from its double platinum album "X&Y," will be included in tonight's episode of "CSI: NY". The ringtone will then be available exclusively from CBS.com for one week.

Dulles, Va. -- America Online said on Monday that for the first time, it will offer a full episode of a primetime TV show online the morning after it airs on television. The promotion, for fellow Time Warner subsidiary WB Network's program "Everwood," is aimed at enabling viewers to familiarize themselves with the show's storyline and characters in anticipation of the debutof new episodes on April 5. AOL will offer an episode of the WB's "Everwood" that originally aired on Feb. 23 and will be re-broadcast tonight, exclusively on AOL for Broadband for one week beginning tomorrow. "Through this unprecedented marketing initiative, we are providing AOL for Broadband members with an exclusive and unique way to sample a full length television episode, as well as providing The WB with an exciting new way to attract viewers," said AOL Television vice president and general manager Patricia Karpas.
