Sirius Satellite Radio Raises 2005 Subscriber Estimates

New York -- Sirius Satellite Radio has announced that it expects to add 300,000 more subscribers by the end of the year than previously anticipated. Sirius, which added 366,000 subscribers last quarter to increase its total to 1.81 million, now says it expects to finish the year with 3 million subscribers, up from previous estimates of 2.7 million. By comparison, rival XM Satellite Radio currently has 4.4 million subscribers and expects to have 6 million by year's end. Sirius, which is preparing to launch shows from such notable personalities as Howard Stern and Martha Stewart, reported $52.2 million in revenue last quarter, quadruple the amount of a year ago, but also a net loss of $177.5 million. XM Satellite Radio Beats Estimates, Reports 1.68 Million Subscribers

Washington -- XM Satellite Radio, a provider of satellite-delivered digital radio programming, announced that it added 320,000 net new subscribers during the first quarter of 2003 -- a 230% increase over the number added in the same period last year -- and now counts a total of 1.68 million subscribers. The numbers beat analyst estimates, which projected XM would add 259,000 subscribers during the quarter. "This strong performance firmly positions the company for its 2004 goal of more than 2.8 million subscribers by year's end," said XM CEO Hugh Panero.

Yahoo Beats Estimates, Raises Guidance

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Buoyed by sales of its fee-based services, Yahoo on Wednesday posted earnings and revenue results for the first quarter that beat Wall Street estimates. The company reported net income of $46.7 million, or $0.08 per share. Yahoo's revenue from free-based services, including its Internet access business with SBC Communications, rose 61 percent to $63.7 million. "Our results this quarter reflect the strong performance of our marketing services businesses, as well as continued success in providing fee-based services," said Terry Semel, the chairman and CEO of Yahoo. The company also raised its guidance for this year's revenue, from earlier predictions of $1.15-$1.22 billion to $1.22-$1.28 million.
