Warner Bros. Signs Eastwood, Hackman, Fishburne for "Dirty Harry" Game

Los Angeles - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo that it has signed actors Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman and Laurence Fishburne to provide their voices and likenesses to its upcoming video game based on the "Dirty Harry" film franchise. Warner and Eastwood's Malpaso and The Tehama Companies are overseeing development of the game for next-generation consoles, which is being developed by The Collective and will be released alongside a "Dirty Harry" DVD collection in 2007.

GameSpot Names E3 2006 People's Choice Awards

Los Angeles - CNET Networks' GameSpot gaming portal on Thursday announced winners of its Second Annual GameSpot E3 2006 People's Choice Awards. The awards are based on the opinions of millions of gamers who visited GameSpot websites covering the video game industry convention on its opening day. The 20 most-anticipated games announced at this year's E3 include Microsoft's "Halo 3," Electronic Arts' "Spore," designed by "Sims" creator Wil Wright, and Nintendo's "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess".

10 Million Xbox 360s to Ship Before New Consoles from Sony, Nintendo

Los Angeles - Microsoft chairman Bill Gates announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles that the company plans to have shipped 10 million of its Xbox 360 video game consoles to market by the time Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii are launched. A total of 160 game titles will by then be available for Xbox 360, including the forthcoming "Halo 3," "Fable 2," "Gears of War," "Forza Motorsport 2" "Alan Wake," "Crackdown" and "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Double Agent". The company also signed deals with game publishers Konami, Namco Bandai, Midway Games and Sega to bring classic and new titles to its Xbox Live Arcade, where games can be purchased and downloaded for play on the Xbox 360. The deals include games like "Pac-Man," "Dig Dug," "Frogger," "Paperboy" and "Sonic the Hedgehog: High Speed." Gates also announced a new initiative called "Live Anywhere," which will expand the company's Xbox Live online gaming service to include PC and mobile games; Gates expects the number of gamers on Xbox Live to double to 6 million by this time next year. Finally, Microsoft plans to introduce an Xbox 360 HD DVD drive accessory in the fall, which will play movies on the next-generation DVD format from Toshiba. Sony plans to include a Blu-ray Disc drive in the PlayStation 3.

2K Games Announces Line-up of E3 Titles

New York - 2K Games, a unit of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive, announced on Wednesday the games it will showcase at the Electronic Entertainment Expo this week in Los Angeles, which include titles based on "The Da Vinci Code," Fox TV's "Family Guy" and the comic book franchises "The Darkness" and "Ghost Rider". The full 2K Games E3 line-up includes "BioShock"; "CivCity: Rome"; "Dungeon Siege II: Broken World"; "Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony"; "Prey"; "Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords"; "Sid Meier's Railroads!"; and "Stronghold Legends". Titles from the unit's 2K Sports label will include "NHL 2K7," "NBA 2K7" and "College Hoops 2K7".

Los Angeles - Cell phone maker Nokia on Wednesday introduced a number of mobile games that will be offered for its Nseries and Nokia S60 devices. Upcoming titles include "Creatures of the Deep"; "ONE"; "Pocket Aces: Texas Hold'em"; "Pro Series Golf"; "Space Impact"; and "System Rush: Evolution".

PlayStation 3 to Debut on Nov. 17 With $599 Price Tag

Los Angeles - Sony Computer Entertainment of America on Tuesday unveiled its next-generation PlayStation 3 video game console, which will go on sale in North America on Nov. 17 as part of a worldwide simultaneous launch. From the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, Sony said the console will sell for $599 with a 60GB hard drive, or in a less fully-featured version with a 20GB hard drive for $499. Both versions will feature the Cell processor and be able to play movies on Sony's next-generation DVD format, Blu-ray; other features include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and support for output of high-definition video up to 1080p. Sony has also designed a new controller for the PS3, featuring a six-axis motion-sensing system. The company aims to ship 4 million PS3 consoles by Dec. 31, and 2 million more by March 31, 2007.

"Grand Theft Auto IV" to Ship in October for PS3, Xbox 360

New York - Rockstar Games, a unit of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive, announced on Tuesday from the Electronic Entertainment Expo that it plans to publish "Grand Theft Auto IV," the latest installment in its top-selling game franchise, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October 2007. In development at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, Scotland, the game will ship on Oct. 16 in North America and in Europe on Oct. 19, 2007. Rockstar and Take-Two had to recall copies of the last installment of the franchise, after it was discovered that a sexually explicit mini-game hidden in the game's source code could be unlocked with a key downloaded from the Internet. The game was given a more stringent "Adults Only" rating and removed from many retailers' shelves while the publisher readied an alternate version that removed the offensive code. Take-Two is still facing a number of class action lawsuits and an FTC probe over the matter.

Los Angeles - Denmark-based independent video game developer The Game Factory on Tuesday announced its third and fourth quarter product line, consisting mainly of titles based on international children's characters from film and TV. Upcoming Game Factory titles include "Cartoon Network Racing"; "Code Lyoko"; "Legend of the Dragon"; "Garfield 2: A Tale of Two Kitties"; "Strawberry Shortcake: Strawberryland Games"; and "Strawberry Shortcake Adventures in the Land of Dreams".

Vivendi Games Announces New Titles Showing at E3

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games, the media conglomerate's video game publishing unit, announced on Monday the roster of upcoming titles it will showcase at this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles. They include "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade," an expansion pack to its online game with 6.5 million subscribers; "Scarface: The World Is Yours," based on the classic gangster film; "Eragon," based on the fantasy novel series and upcoming 20th Century Fox Film; and "Miami Vice: The Game," based on the '80's TV show and summer film from Universal Pictures. Other Vivendi titles to be previewed at E3 include "World in Conflict"; "F.E.A.R. 360"; "Timeshift"; "Caesar IV"; "FreeStyle Street Basketball"; and "50 Cent: Bulletproof G Unit Edition," a portable version of the game for Sony PSP. The company's Vivendi Games Mobile unit will also display wireless game titles such as "After Dark: Flying Toaster"; "Navy Challenge"; "Black Hawk Down: Team Sabre"; and "Red Baron".

Burbank, Calif. - Disney's Buena Vista Games on Monday announced the line-up of new console, handheld and PC game titles it will be bringing to the Electronic Entertainment Expo this week. Buena Vista Games will preview "Meet the Robinsons," based on the upcoming Disney animated film; "Cars," basd on the Disney/Pixar film; "Turok"; "Lumines Plus"; "Chicken Little: Ace in Action"; "Kim Possible: What's the Switch?"; "Desperate Housewives: The Game"; "Spectrobes"; "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest"; "Every Extend Extra"; "Meteos: Disney Edition"; and "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Legend of Jack Sparrow". Games exclusive to the Nintendo DS will include "American Dragon: Jake Long, Attack of the Dark Dragon"; "Kim Possible: Global Gemini"; "Hannah Montana"; "That's So Raven: Psychic on the Scene"; "The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure"; and "The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Tipton Trouble". Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ on Friday named the game titles it will preview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo industry trade show next week, adding that it won a license to publish games based on HBO's mobster series "The Sopranos". In addition to the Sopranos game, which will feature the voice and likeness of actors from the series including James Gandolfini, the company's line-up of games for next-generation consoles includes "Saints Row"; "Frontlines: Fuel of War"; "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007"; "MotoGP '06"; and "GTR." For the PC, THQ is at work on "Supreme Commander"; "Company of Heroes"; "Titan Quest"; and "Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War - Dark Crusade". THQ will also preview titles for both current and next-generation consoles, such as "Cars," based on the Disney/Pixar film; "Destroy All Humans 2"; "SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab"; "Monster House," based on the Columbia Pictures film: "Bratz: Forever Diamondz"; "Barnyard," based on the Nickelodeon film; "Avatar: The Last Airbender," based on a Nickelodeon TV series; "Juiced: Eliminator"; and "Alex Rider: Stormbreaker". New York - Atari on Friday announced the roster of upcoming titles it will have on display at next week's E3 event. They include Xbox 360 and PC versions of its "Alone in the Dark," which was spun-off into a feature-length film; "Arthur and the Minimoys," based on the upcoming animated film from The Weinstein Company; "BattleZone"; "Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics"; "Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2"; "HOT PXL"; "Neverwinter Nights 2"; "Super DBZ"; and "Test Drive Unlimited".

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts announced on Thursday the roster of games it will preview at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week in Los Angeles, including titles for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PSP, Nintendo Wii, DS, the PC and mobile phones. Under the company's EA Sports brand, the company will preview "Madden NFL 07," "NCAA Football 07" and "NASCAR 07". The company will also show "Army of Two"; "Battlefield 2142"; "Spore," from "Sims" developer Wil Wright; "Crysis"; "Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars"; "The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II"; "Superman Returns: The Videogame"; and "Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover".
