Fandango Acquires Disney's Movies.com

Los Angeles - Fandango, a provider of online and mobile movie showtimes and advance ticket sales, announced on Monday that it has acquired Disney's (NYSE: DIS) Movies.com for an undisclosed sum.

San Francisco - Advance movie ticket seller Fandango said on Wednesday that it has partnered with Microsoft's Tellme to add voice-activated movie information for mobile phones. Initially available for BlackBerry devices, with Helio Mysto phones to be added, the service uses GPS technology to target showtimes and provide directions to theaters.

Los Angeles - Fandango, a provider of advance online movie ticket sales, on Wednesday introduced a new Facebook application that lets movie studios, film distributors, production companies, theaters and others enhance their Facebook pages with showtimes and ticketing capabilities.

Los Angeles - The nation's two leading online movie ticket sellers -- Fandango and MovieTickets.com -- announced on Monday that "Spider-Man 3" set single-day ticket sales records for both of their services. Fandango, which was recently acquired by cable TV provider Comcast, said that ticket sales for the film on Friday broke both its daily and hourly sales records, when the site sold ten tickets per second over multiple hours. Meanwhile, MovieTickets.com -- a joint venture between a number of theater owners, AOL and Viacom -- said "Spider-Man 3" broke its single-day sales record, beating out last summer's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

Philadelphia - Comcast, the nation's largest cable TV provider, announced on Wednesday that it will acquire Fandango, a movie showtimes and ticketing site that claims 4-5 million visitors per month.

Vivi Zigler, Executive Vice President, NBC Digital Entertainment and New Media announced two promotions at NBC.com. Stephen Andrade was promoted to Senior Vice President, Digital Development and General Manager. Andrade had been Vice President, Interactive Development for NBC.com since 1999. He will continue to report to Zigler.

WPP Group, the UK ad holding concern and LiveWorld, the Los Gatos, Calif., company that builds online communities, appointed Alex Norman, as Chief Executive of their recently formed joint venture, LiveWorld-WPP. Norman, who will be based in New York, previoulsy was Senior Marketing Director of Endeavor Marketing.

Las Vegas - Fandango, a provider of advance online movie ticket sales, announced on Thursday that it has partnered with mobile firm Ericsson on a mobile movie information and ticketing service. Under the deal, Ericsson will host Fandango's mobile application, which will enable moviegoers to find showtimes and buy movie tickets when they text their zip code to Fandango; future additions will include bar-coded tickets sent to mobile phones.

Sprint to Offer Fandango Mobile Movie Ticketing Service

Los Angeles - Fandango, a provider of advance online movie ticket sales, announced on Monday that it has partnered with Sprint to launch a mobile movie ticketing service. The companies worked with Crisp Wireless to develop the service, which lets mobile users find showtimes for nearby theaters, and purchase tickets with their phones. The service will also allow studios to target moviegoers with movie-related ringtones, wallpapers and games. Los Angeles-based Fandango offers advance movie ticket sales for more than 13,000 screens at 1,150 movie theaters.

Los Angeles - Fandango, a provider of advance online and phone-based movie ticket sales, announced on Monday that it sold an estimated $12 million of the $101.4 million weekend opening box office ticket sales for "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." The company broke its daily record for ticket sales on Nov. 18, when it sold an average of nearly 10 tickets per second to the film; however, "Star Wars Episode III" remains the advance top-selling movie for Fandango.

Online Movie Ticket Seller Fandango Raises $15.3 Million

Hollywood -- Fandango, a provider of online advance movie ticket sales and show time information, announced on Tuesday that it has secured $15.3 million in new funding from Technology Crossover Ventures, a $2.5 billion fund and provider of growth capital to technology companies. Other TCV portfolio companies include Expedia, Netflix and RealNetworks. Hollywood-based Fandango, which offers online movie ticketing at nearly 7,800 screens in 40 cities, said it will use the new funds to facilitate market expansion, extend alliances with movie studios and exhibitors, and develop and enhance new products and services.
