Sundance, GSM Association Commission Short Films for Cell Phones

New York - Robert Redford's Sundance Institute announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with the mobile industry's GSM Association, which represents 700 operators worldwide, to commission the creation of short films for distribution on cell phones.

SXSW, Blaze TV to Debut South By TV Network at 2007 Music Festival

Los Angeles - The South by Southwest Music and Media Conference (SXSW), which annually showcases hundreds of bands from around the world in Austin, Texas, announced on Wednesday that it has formed a joint venture with music event producer Blaze TV to distribute performances from the festival via TV, DVD, Internet and mobile phones. The South By TV (SXTV) venture will shoot bands in a custom-equipped venue in Austin with multi-camera HD and 5.1 surround sound. SXTV performances will air on CD USA, a weekly show produced by Blaze TV for DirecTV; Miami-based Zeal TV was named to distribute SXTV outside the U.S. Along with Internet and mobile distribution, SXTV will also issue a "Best of SXSW 2007" DVD through Blaze TV's parent company, Shout Factory.

Worldspace Satellite Radio to Broadcast Live from Virgin Festival

Silver Spring, Md. - Worldspace Satellite Radio, an international provider of satellite radio programming, said on Monday that it will broadcast live next weekend from the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, Md. The event will feature performances from The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flaming Lips and Scissor Sisters.

MSN Video to Webcast JVC Jazz Festival

Newport, R.I. - Microsoft's MSN Video announced on Wednesday that it will webcast performances from the JVC Jazz Festival in Newport, R.I,. beginning on Sunday, Aug. 13.

CMP Media Posts Guidelines for 2007 Independent Games Festival

San Francisco - The Independent Games Festival, part of CMP Media's annual Game Developers Conference, on Tuesday announced the rules and guidelines for its 2007 competition, which will award over $50,000 in cash prizes at the conference next March.
