Indie Games Studio Foundation 9 Names New CEO

Irvine, Calif. - Independent video game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has named James North-Hearn as its new CEO. North-Hearn, who was previously managing director at Foundation 9 Europe, replaces former chairman and CEO Jon Goldman, who will serve as non-executive chairman for six months. "After 14 years building this business, I am delighted to pass the reins to James," said Goldman, adding, "I've accomplished what we agreed to do and now it's time for me to actually enjoy some of the fruits of that success." Foundation 9's studios have collectively developed more than 500 titles since 1992.

Game Developer Foundation 9 Acquires U.K.-based Sumo Digital

Newport Beach, Calif. - Video game developer and publisher Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Friday that it will acquire U.K.-based developer Sumo Digital.

Foundation 9 Entertainment Acquires Atari's Shiny Game Studio

Los Angeles - Independent game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Monday that it has acquired the non-game assets of Atari's Shiny Entertainment studio. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Under the deal, the development team at Shiny will remain intact and co-locate with Foundation 9's The Collective studio in 2007. Founded in 1993, Newport Beach, Calif.-based Shiny's titles include two games based on "The Matrix" film franchise, and "Earthworm Jim." Foundation 9, whose studios include The Collective, Backbone Entertainment, Pipeworks, ImaginEngine and Digital Eclipse, is currently in development on more than 20 titles, including "Death Jr.," "Dirty Harry" and "Sonic Rivals."

Independent Game Developer Foundation 9 Gets $150 Million Investment

Los Angeles - Independent video game developer Foundation 9 Entertainment announced on Thursday that it has received a substantial investment from Francisco Partners, providing it with access to up to $150 million over the next few years.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Foundation 9, the largest independent game developer in North America, has raised $150 million in a private round, funded by Francisco Partners.
