MySpace, Fox News Partner on Citizen Journalism Feature

Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace on Monday announced that it partnered with sister company Fox News Channel to launch MySpace uReport, a citizen journalism initiative on the social network. MySpace users can upload photos and videos to the uReport page on MySpace, which could then be featured on Fox News Channel or Foxnews.com.

New York - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) Fox News unit has fired ten-year veteran entertainment reporter Roger Friedman, after Friedman posted a review of the unfinished copy of 20th Century Fox's film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" that was leaked onto the Internet. The film, which is not due in theaters until May 1, appeared on file-sharing networks last Tuesday; Friedman posted his review on FoxNews.com on Thursday, and by Friday Fox had pulled it offline.

News Corp. Buys Stake in Student Journalism Firm Palestra

New York - Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. (NYSE: NWS) bought a minority stake in student journalism site Palestra.net in May, and will begin including student-reported news pieces on its Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network in the fall, Forbes.com reports.

King of Prussia, Pa. - Days after being served a copyright infringement lawsuit by broadcasters NBC (NYSE: GE) and Fox News (NYSE: NWS), Web video clipping service Redlasso announced on Friday that it will suspend access to its clipping service. "We believe we have always acted within the law and have been respectful of the networks rights. Unfortunately, they have forced our hand and are denying the blogging community access to the Redlasso platform that beneficially tracks the usage of newsworthy clips across the Web," said Ken Hayward, CEO of Redlasso.

A colleague forwarded me a fantastic article from Ad Age "It's Web 3.0, and Someone Else's Content is King". The article is worth a read for anyone in the content business. The author, Matthew Creamer, suggests that Web 3.0 will be about monetizing the web's openness and points to examples in the news business of websites aggregating other people's content for profit. With HDNet Ultra VOD movies premiere first in Hotels and on cable and satellite VOD systems PRIOR to making their national theatrical premieres. Maven Networks to Power All Fox News Online TV Services

Cambridge, Mass. - Maven Networks, a provider of Internet video content delivery technology, on Wednesday announced that Fox News has selected Maven to power all of its online video news channels. Maven's technology platform will support the delivery and "monetization" of thousands of hours of ad-supported news videos across Fox's online network and affiliate websites.

Los Angeles - After "scheduling conflicts" threatened to limit the Republican version of a CNN and YouTube-sponsored presidential debate to just three candidates, a new date has been set for late November and both Rudy Giuliani and John McCain have committed to participate, Variety reported.

New York - Fox News has introduced a subscription service that delivers an audio feed of the cable news channel to cell phones, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The company partnered with Single Touch Interactive on the service, which will initially be available to Cingular subscribers for $2.99 a month, plus per-minute charges.

New York - Online TV news syndication service Internet Broadcasting Corp. announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement to offer content from Fox News. Under the deal, Montreal-based Internet Broadcasting's IBCToday.com will include up to 40 Fox international and U.S. national news, business and entertainment video stories each day. IBC also has similar agreements with Associated Press TV and the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

A Fox News spokesperson contacted DMW today and stated that it was a mistake to remove the clips of Chris Wallace’s interview with former President Clinton on YouTube. In an official statement, Fox News claims that their Internet division used “poor judgment” when going after YouTubers. Strategically, Fox News recognizes that the clips are of great PR value and that the company is “thrilled” that the interview received so much publicity.
