"Age of Conan" Sells 1 Million Copies; Top U.S. PC Game

Durham, N.C. - Video game publisher Funcom announced on Friday that its "Age of Conan" massively multiplayer online PC game has now sold a million copies in less than three weeks, topping PC game charts in the U.S., Germany, France and the U.K. "Sales data shows that Age of Conan is the biggest MMO launch since World of Warcraft," said Morten Larssen, Funcom VP of sales and marketing. "The numbers are very promising, and we are very proud to be one of the fastest selling PC games ever in a launch month and the biggest simultaneous Europe/US MMO launch in history."

Durham, N.C. - Video game publisher Funcom announced on Tuesday that its "Age of Conan" has become one of the fastest-selling PC games of all time, as more than 400,000 players have entered the multiplayer online game in the ten days since it went on sale. The company said less than half came from the North American market.

Funcom Launches Virtual Item Sales in "Anarchy Online" MMOG

Durham, N.C. - Online game developer Funcom said on Friday that it has launched virtual item sales within its "Anarchy Online" massively multiplayer online game. Virtual "points" will be available in packages for $10, $20 or $40, where 100 points is the equivalent of $1. Funcom said items available for purchase will include hover-bikes, hover-boards, social clothing, pets and luxury apartments, adding that its focus is to ensure that the new virtual items do not affect the balance of gameplay.

Online Game Developer Funcom Raises $30 Million

Durham, N.C. - Online game developer Funcom on Friday announced plans to publish "The Secret World," a new massively multiplayer online roleplaying title for the PC and Xbox 360. The creators of "Anarchy Online" and "Age of Conan" said its studios on Oslo and Beijing are working on "The Secret World," which does not yet have a release date.

Funcom Gets Norwegian Film Fund Grant for "Dreamfall" Game Sequel

Durham, N.C. - Funcom, a Norway-based online game developer, announced on Thursday that it has received a grant from the Norwegian Film Fund to help finance research and development of "Dreamfall Chapters," a new online-only sequel for the episodic PC game franchise. Funcom, whose other titles include "Anarchy Online," said it also received aid from the Norwegian Film Fund to develop the original "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey."

Kusnacht, Switzerland -- Funcom, a developer of massively multiplayer online video games, announced that it has received a $6.1 million equity investment from Nordic Venture Partners. Switzerland-based Funcom, which has U.S. offices in Durham, N.C., has developed titles including "Anarchy Online" and the upcoming "Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures." Founded in 1993, the company's 23 releases to date also include a number for video game consoles, such as a game based on a license of Disney's "Pocahontas."

Norwegian Game Developer Funcom Raises $5.4 Million

Oslo, Norway -- Norwegian console and PC game developer Funcom announced on Tuesday that it has received a $5.4 million equity investment from new investor Northzone Ventures, and existing investors Teknoinvest and Stelt Holding. Funcom mainly develops massively multiplayer online games, including "Anarchy Online," and said it is currently at work on three such titles. The company will use the funds to increase the scope and quality of future games, while expanding its global sales and marketing initiatives.
