Stockholm - Edgeware, a Sweden-based start-up developing servers for on-demand TV services, announced that it has secured an undisclosed amount of first round venture capital financing. Creandum, an early stage technology venture capital firm focusing on the Nordic region, led the round. Edgeware is a system vendor targeting interactive TV and video on demand (VoD) applications in IPTV and cable TV networks. The company said that the funding, its first since receiving seed funding from First Round Capital prior to its launch in September, will be used to accelerate the development of its flagship product, as well as to expand overall marketing and business development efforts. VideoEgg's plug-in product is designed to make it easier for Internet users to encode, upload, host and watch digital video.

Moscow -- Russian PC game publisher Buka Entertainment announced that it has raised several million dollars through equity investments from Finam Investment Company and Norum, which now own 52.9% of the company. Buka claims to represent 12% of the total Russian video game market, and has distributed games in 70 countries and 15 languages. Moscow-based Buka will use the funds to publish a greater number of PC games, and to expand its distribution network.

Sun Valley, Idaho -- Revelations Entertainment, a joint venture between actor Morgan Freeman and producer Lori McCreary, announced on Wednesday that it has received an undisclosed investment from chipmaker Intel to launch ClickStar, an Internet video-on-demand service. ClickStar plans to sell downloads of first-run, pre-DVD-release films and offer artist-created entertainment channels. The venture will be headed by former Sony Pictures executive Nizar Allibhoy. "Our goal is to deliver first-run premium entertainment to film fans around the world and to make film easier to buy than to pirate," said Morgan Freeman.

San Francisco -- ON24, a San Francisco-based maker of webcast and multimedia communications software, said on Monday that it has secured $3.3 million in a new round of funding, co-led by U.S. Venture Partners, Canaan Partners and Rho Management. The company, which began turning a profit late last year, has now raised a total of about $40 million in private equity. ON24 said that it plans to use the capital, in part, to expand operations to support its growing customer base, as well as to develop new products. ON24 currently has more than 400 corporate clients, including Cardinal Health, Cisco Systems, Credit Suisse First Boston, Hewlett-Packard, Merrill Lynch, the NCAA, Philips and Sun Microsystems.

Washington -- The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), a trade group made up of the major video game developers and publishers, announced that it has made a $200,000 grant to Web Wise Kids, a program that uses a PC game called "Missing" to help teach kids online safety and catch online child predators. The game, developed by Vancouver-based Livewires Design, is now used in 25 states and has led to the apprehension of three child predators by authorities. "This game helps parents and kids recognize the warning signs that there may be a problem," said ESA president Douglas Lowenstein. "As a result, we've seen children saved and online predators brought to justice." The new grant will be used to support the existing statewide programs in California, Oregon and Massachusetts, expand programs in six additional states, and provide additional kits for pilot programs in new states throughout the country.

Glen Cove, N.Y. -- Video game developer and publisher Acclaim Entertainment announced on Thursday that it expects to shortly complete a financing through the sale of its convertible subordinated promissory notes, to a limited group of private investors. Acclaim did not say how much it intends to raise through the sale, but said the proceeds will be added to the company's working capital and used for general corporate purposes. New York-based Acclaim this week also announced the repayment of a $5 million loan from its lender GMAC.

Cupertino, Calif. -- Be Here Technologies, a maker of software and hardware products used to capture and deliver panoramic and wide-angle video and still pictures, said that it raised an undisclosed amount of funding earlier this month. New investor Birchmere Ventures led a round that included several previous investors, including Wasserstein Ventures, Totem Ventures, Enterprise Partners, Philips and Kodak. The funding will allow the company to build upon its 360 degree and wide-angle video camera technology to deliver new products for group and desktop videoconferencing, as well as for security and monitoring and automotive applications. In May 2001, Be Here secured $6 million to bring its total funding at that time to $23 million.
