FOTV: Is TiVo Becoming A Software Company?

From Future of Television Forum 2007 - Tom Rogers, President and CEO, TiVo (NSDQ: TIVO), gave the audience a glimpse into Tivo 2.0 in his morning keynote. While still a very strong brand, TiVo has faced tough competition from cheaper, generic DVRs integrated into the set-top boxes being offered by cable and satellite companies. However, TiVo has now found a way forward – selling its software and brand to the distributors generic boxes and broadening its focus to more than video content.

From Future of Television Forum 2007 - Soon, we won't be talking about TV-programs anymore at this conference. More likely, we'll be talking about monetizing broader media properties like Harry Potter and Big Brother. Don't get me wrong, TV is not dead, but finding a story or an idea that is so appealing that it holds up on ALL platforms is the new holy grail.

From Future of Television Forum 2007: If the WGA strike is not resolved this week, it could have a considerable impact on the industry. That was the consensus among television executives and experts on the Thursday afternoon panels at DMW's sold-out conference in NYC.
