Seattle - PopCap Games, a developer and publisher of casual video games, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $22.5 million in its first round of outside financing, led by Meritech Capital Partners.

New York - NBC Universal's (NYSE: GE) USA Network announced on Wednesday the launch of a casual gaming portal, Character Arcade, that also includes social networking, news and other features. The company partnered with game publishers NeoEdge and Bigpoint to expand its catalog of game titles, and with Bunchball to launch a rewards and points program connected to social media sites.

San Francisco - Casual games developer PlayFirst, creator of the "Diner Dash" franchise, on Thursday named Mari Baker as CEO and Jim Wandrey as chief financial officer. Baker was previously CEO of Navigenics and before than president of BabyCenter, while Wandrey served as CFO of Telephia. Baker replaces PlayFirst co-founder John Welch, widely regarded as one of the leaders of the casual game revolution and the mind behind the success of the "Diner Dash" franchise. London - Video game publisher Eidos has sold back the rights to casual games studio Gimmie5games, which it acquired back in 2007, GamesIndustry.biz reported. The newly independent studio will continue to develop online and casual games.  "This is the best route for all parties involved," Gimmie5games general manager Matt Spall told GamesIndustry.biz. "We understand we're not the focus of Eidos' business right now, but we passionately believe in our business and this way the team here are free to explore new and exciting business opportunities."
