Atom Entertainment Site to Feature Games Based on News, Pop Culture

San Francisco - Atom Entertainment, a short films and online games company recently acquired by Viacom's MTV for $200 million, on Friday launched a NewsGames channel, which will feature online games based on current events. Hosted by the company's AddictingGames site, the channel will initially host titles like "Zidane Headbutt," "Bush Backrub" and "Cheney's Fury." San Francisco-based Atom said it will develop dozens of new titles each year, and promote the best user-generated games that mock popular headlines and cultural topics.

New York - Viacom's MTV Networks announced on Wednesday that it has acquired San Francisco-based Atom Entertainment, a provider of short films and online games, for $200 million. Atom's holdings include online film pioneer AtomFilms.com, online games site Shockwave.com, AddictingGames.com and AddictingClips.com.

Atom Entertainment Launches Shockwave.com Game Studios

San Francisco - Atom Entertainment, a provider of short films, games and other online content, announced on Monday the launch of Shockwave.com Game Studios, a new unit that will work with advertisers and independent game developers to create new online games and advergames. The company also announced the launch of Shockwave.com Unlimited, a $4.95 per month, ad-free subscription version of its online games portal, which features over 300 titles.

Atom Entertainment Adds Video Uploads, Sharing to AddictingClips Site

San Francisco - Atom Entertainment, a distributor of short films and online games, announced on Thursday a new feature on its AddictingClips video site that lets users upload and share video, animation and Flash games online, including content uploaded directly from mobile phones. AddictingClips will allow users to share content either publicly or privately; the site also offers features found on other video-sharing sites like YouTube, which let users to link to video clips and embed them on outside websites.

Atom Entertainment to Finance Short Film Productions

Park City, Utah - Atom Entertainment (formerly AtomShockwave), a distributor of online video programming and video games, on Monday announced the creation of AtomFilms Studio, a program that will invest in original broadband entertainment productions. The Seattle-based company said it has six development projects currently in production, and plans to produce dozens more projects this year. The resulting short films will be showcased on the company's AtomFilms website.

San Francisco - AtomShockwave, a distributor of short films and online games, announced on Wednesday that it has changed the name of the company to Atom Entertainment. The company said the name change was spurred by recent acquisitions and the creation of a new video directory and advertising network. San Francisco-based Atom Entertainment operates the games sites Shockwave.com and AddictingGames, and the video sites AtomFilms and AddictingClips. The company recently acquired the online games portal AddictingGames, and launched an in-game ad network for Shockwave.com.
