EAAre You Mobile Yet?Authored by Keenan Reilly on March 19, 2008 - 4:05am.
As a 23-year-old video game developer at EA, I often find myself taking technology for granted. I’m like a parent watching a child grow. It is at such a constant rate of change that it isn’t really noticeable from day to day. If I’m the parent, then the consumer is comparable to a distant relative who only sees the child during the holidays, which creates an inevitable shock factor when finally seeing the child after some time. With Apple opening up the iPhone to third party game developers, the public is now getting a glimpse at what I have been observing for quite some time; mobile phones are the future of gaming. EA, Weather Channel to Provide Live Weather Conditions on Football GameAuthored by dmw on August 3, 2007 - 1:36pm.
Redwood City, CA - In what's believed to be an industry first, Redwood City-based game developer and publisher Electronic Arts (EA) said that it has teamed with The Weather Channel to offer real-time weather conditions and updates in its newly released NCAA Football 08 game. The latest version of the popular college football game will use information from The Weather Channel Interactive (TWCI) -- transmitted through the Internet -- to reflect accurate, real-time weather conditions at NCAA stadiums. Game Critics Awards Gives Casual Game “Rock Band” Top HonorAuthored by Scott Goldberg on August 1, 2007 - 1:48pm.
A central topic at DMW’s Games & Mobile Forum in May was the definition of a “game” and how that definition has changed. No more evident is that change than with today’s announcement that Rock Band, a game mirroring the Guitar Hero series and produced by MTV and EA, was awarded Best of Show for last month’s E3. Most importantly, it beat four conventional action titles for the award, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4, Mass Effect, and Fallout 3. The award is just the latest sign that consumers and critics are increasingly leaning toward the fun, easily accessible games as opposed to the massive epics. The name traditionally given to such games is “casual,” though industry observers, including many speakers at the Games & Mobile Forum, believe no categorization is necessary. There are only games. Nothing more, nothing less.
