Los Angeles - Japanese video game publisher Capcom has partnered with Warner Bros. (NYSE: TWX) to co-finance the production of a movie based on Capcom's two million unit-selling "Lost Planet" video game, Variety reports. The screenplay will be written by David Hayter ("Watchmen"), who also famously voiced the character Solid Snake in Konami's "Metal Gear Solid" games.

Tokyo - Japanese video game publisher Capcom announced that it will acquire fellow game developer K2, creators of the "Tenchu" series.

San Mateo, Calif. - Video game publisher Capcom announced on Thursday that it has begun development on "Street Fighter IV," the first new installment in the fighting game series in nearly eight years. The company did not provide a prospective release date or platform information on the game, which will render characters and environments in 3D, while maintaining the 2D perspective for gameplay.

Los Angeles - Japanese video game developer Capcom has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan to create a 3D animated film based on its "Resident Evil" game franchise, which to date has sold 33 million units worldwide. "Biohazard: Degeneration" is scheduled for release in the second half of 2008. A trio of live-action movies based on "Resident Evil" have already been released; "Resident Evil: Extinction" has so far earned $50 million at the U.S. box office since its release on Sept. 21, Variety reports.

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Japanese game publisher Capcom said on Tuesday that it has licensed Epic Games' Unreal Engine 3 game physics engine. Capcom said the engine will be utilized in an unannounced project being developed in North America.

San Francisco - Nintendo's Wii was the top-selling video game console in the U.S. in January, followed by Sony's PlayStation 2, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing sales data from market research firm NPD Group.
