Yahoo to Stream Concert of Oakenfold's "Bourne" Game Score

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment announced on Monday that it partnered with Yahoo to host a world premiere concert of the Paul Oakenfold-composed score to its upcoming game "The Bourne Conspiracy" at the 2008 Winter Music Conference. The concert, which will be webcast by Yahoo, will feature Oakenfold and members of the Florida Classical Symphony, as well as a special performance by Cee-Lo Green.

Sierra Ships Game Based on "The Spiderwick Chronicles"

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment studio on Tuesday released its "The Spiderwick Chronicles" game, based on the upcoming Paramount Pictures film and popular books. The title was developed by Stormfront Studios for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, DS, PC and mobile phones.

Vivendi Games, Activision to Merge in $18.9 Billion Deal

Santa Monica, Calif. - French media conglomerate Vivendi announced on Monday a deal with video game publisher Activision (NASD: ATVI), to combine its Vivendi Games unit with Activision to form a new company called Activision Blizzard, in a deal valued at $18.9 billion. Following the completion of the deal, Vivendi will hold a 52% stake in the combined company.

Vivendi Games, Sony Pictures Partner on "Ghostbusters" Game

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games and Sony Pictures have announced plans to produce a series of games based on the "Ghostbusters" movie franchise, which will feature the voices and likenesses of original stars from the movies including Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts and William Atherton, Variety reports. Aykroyd and Ramis will also create an original story for the game. The companies tapped Terminal Reality to develop to create version for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC, and Red Fly Studio to develop the title for PlayStation 2, Wii and DS.

Los Angeles - Vivendi's Sierra Entertainment announced on Thursday that it will publish "The Spiderwick Chronicles," a game based on the best-selling book series and forthcoming film from Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films. The title is currently in development at Stormfront Studios for Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS and the PC for release in February 2008.

Blizzard Sues Virtual Gold Sellers for Spamming "World of Warcraft" Players

Irvine, Calif. - Blizzard Entertainment, the unit of Vivendi Games that operates the popular "World of Warcraft" multiplayer online game, has filed a federal lawsuit against a company it says has spammed players with ads for its service that sells virtual gold used in the game, Wired News reported.

Irvine, Calif. - Vivendi Games' Blizzard Entertainment said on Wednesday that "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade," the first expansion for its title that figures as the world's most popular massively multiplayer online roleplaying game, sold 3.5 million copies within a month of its release in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia. The figure represents a new one-month record for PC game sales, and includes more than 1.9 million copies sold in regions that play on North American realms. The "World of Warcraft" worldwide subscriber base has now grown to more than 8.5 million.

Sierra to Publish "Scarface: The World Is Yours" for Nintendo Wii

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games' Sierra Entertainment said on Friday that it will publish a version of "Scarface: The World Is Yours," based on the classic Universal Pictures gangster film, for the Nintendo Wii this summer. The company said it has already sold 1.5 million units of the title worldwide on other platforms.

Los Angeles - Sierra Online, a unit of Vivendi Games, announced on Friday that it has signed a producer and a number of artists from Vivendi's Universal Music Group to create an exclusive in-game soundtrack for its "FreeStyle Street Basketball" massively multiplayer online PC game. G-Unit's Lloyd Banks will create the game's official theme song, while Young Hot Rod and Sha Money XL will contribute original tracks. The game will initially be available for a free public preview in the spring, and then later offered at retail and via digital distribution.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games Mobile announced on Monday that its "Delta Force Black Hawk Down: Team Sabre" mobile game is now available for purchase and download to Cingular, Sprint and Amp'd Mobile customers in the U.S. The game is based on NovaLogic's game franchise, which was inspired by the 2001 Ridley Scott film.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games announced on Thursday that it has acquired two game development studios, Secret Lair Studios and Studio Ch'in. Financial terms of the transactions were not disclosed. The purchase of Shanghai, China-based Studio Ch'in must still be approved by the Chinese government, but will become a studio within Vivendi's Sierra Online division alongside Issaquah, Wash.-based Secret Lair. Vivendi said that both new studios will contribute to Sierra Online's library of titles for Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade, as well as develop online PC games and titles for other consoles. "Working together, our teams in Los Angeles, Seattle and Shanghai, now form a significant internal development organization focused on creating cutting edge online entertainment with global appeal," said Sierra Online president Ed Zobrist.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games announced on Tuesday that it has acquired Centerscore, a developer of mobile games. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Founded in 2000, San Mateo, Calif.-based Centerscore's titles include "Surviving High School," "Aquarium Pets," "Alone: The Horror Begins" and several Garfield-branded titles. "The Vivendi Games Mobile division is gaining good traction in the worldwide mobile marketplace," said Cindy Cook, chief strategy and marketing officer for Vivendi Games. "The addition of the Centerscore team is another step in our plan to be among the top mobile publishers in the industry."
