Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games, the media conglomerate's video game publishing unit, announced on Tuesday that it has changed its name to Vivendi Games, following the parent company's announcement on April 20 that it has become Vivendi. The company's games include Blizzard Entertainment's "World of Warcraft," a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game with over 6.5 million subscribers.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games announced on Thursday that U.K.-based developer Rebellion is developing "Miami Vice: The Game" for Sony PSP, to be released alongside the upcoming Universal Pictures feature-length film based on the 1980's TV show. The game will be published by VU Games' Sierra Entertainment unit in July.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games announced on Wednesday that it has acquired a license to publish "FreeStyle Street Basketball," an online basketball game developed by Korea's JC Entertainment. The game allows players to create their own streetballer by purchasing gear, clothing and skills through experience points and micro-transactions, and challenge one another online.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games announced on Tuesday that it will publish "Eragon," based on the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox film and Christopher Paolini novel, in November 2006. Stormfront Studios is developing the title for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and the PC, while Amaze Entertainment will create versions for the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. The film is slated to debut in theaters on Dec. 12.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games said on Tuesday that its "50 Cent: Bulletproof" title for PlayStation 2 and Xbox has now sold more than 1 million units in the U.K. and North America combined, since going on sale in late November. The title features over four CDs worth of soundtrack music, including exclusive tracks from 50 Cent.

Los Angeles - Vivendi Universal Games said on Friday that it will offer an exclusive live performance DVD from hip-hop artist 50 Cent to those who pre-order its "50 Cent: Bulletproof" video game for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The "No Fear, No Mercy Live" promo DVD includes 9 live performances. The video game is scheduled to ship in the fall; a version for PSP will be released in 2006.
