Video Game Industry Veteran Launches Consumer Advocacy Group

Wilton, Conn. - The Entertainment Consumers Association (ECA), a new Web-based consumer advocacy group that will lobby local and federal lawmakers on behalf of video gamers, announced its launch on Thursday. The non-profit group was created by Hal Halpin, founder of the Interactive Entertainment Merchants Association (IEMA) -- a trade group representing the video and computer game industries that recently merged with the Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA). "These individuals are the life-blood to this multibillion dollar industry yet they have been unrepresented, until now, which is exciting for myself and the rest of the ECA team as we are the organization that now allows their voices to be heard," said Halpin. The ECA will represent gamers in areas like consumer rights, anti-games legislation and a host of other public policy concerns. For a $19.99 annual membership, the ECA will also offer discounts on games and access to industry events, and in the future potentially career assistance, scholarships and low-cost health insurance.

Sony Online Launches "The Serpent's Spine" Expansion for "EverQuest"

San Diego - Sony Online Entertainment on Wednesday released "The Serpent's Spine," the twelfth expansion pack for its "EverQuest" massively multiplayer online roleplaying game. The title is available exclusively as a digital download for $29.

Electronic Arts Launches 3rd Season of Online Fantasy Football

Redwood City, Calif. - Electronic Arts announced on Wednesday the launch of the third season of "EA Sports Fantasy Football" online game. Fees are $49.99 for commissioners and $9.99 per team. EA said the fantasy league now integrates with its "Madden NFL 07," allowing players to check fantasy scores and trade notifications. Both "Madden NFL 07" and EA's "NFL Head Coach" console titles will also come with an EA Sports Fantasy Football commissioner account included in the game's packaging.

Sierra Ships "Miami Vice" for PSP, Signs Actors for "TimeShift"

Los Angeles - Sierra Entertainment, a publishing label of Vivendi Games, announced on Thursday the release of its "Miami Vice: The Game" title for Sony PSP.

2K Games Ships "CivCity: Rome," "Civilization IV" Expansion Pack

New York - 2K Games, a unit of Take-Two Interactive, on Wednesday shipped its "CivCity: Rome" PC game and "Warlords," the first expansion pack for its "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" PC title, to retailers. "CivCity" was developed by Firefly Studios in collaboration with Take-Two's Firaxis Games, while the expansion was developed at Firaxis.

Santa Clara, Calif. - Namco Bandai Games America on Tuesday shipped its "Tekken: Dark Resurrection" game for Sony PSP to North American retailers. The title is the first from the franchise to be developed for the PSP handheld.

New York - Atari on Tuesday shipped its "Super Dragon Ball Z" title for PlayStation 2 to retailers. Based on the Japanese anime series distributed in the U.S. by FUNimation, the game was developed by Crafts & Meister, the studio launched by former "Street Fighter II" producer Noritaka Funamizu.
