Founded in 2002, Massachusetts-based GameLogic develops virtual-play gaming entertainment platforms that let players gamble away from the casino, and marketing software that maintains relations between visits. The company says that its Web-based gaming applications are specifically designed to adhere to all U.S. federal and state regulations.

Toronto - GestureTek, a developer of gesture-based control systems for entertainment devices, announced on Friday that has licensed its technology to toymaker Hasbro's Playskool division for use with its Ion Educational Gaming System. Playskool's device consists of a camera that will capture children's movements and allow them to play educational games on the TV alongside children's characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer. The game is expected to ship in August for $99, with additional Active Learning Discs to retail for $14.99.

The Bluetooth technology eliminates cables between the console and game controllers and other accessories, while Broadcom's Wi-Fi chip will allow the Wii to go online for multiplayer gaming and to download extra content. Nintendo's Wii console is scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter.

New York - Verizon announced on Monday that it has acquired an equity stake in Super Computer International, a provider of equipment and services for online video games. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The companies are developing an online game browsing and messaging platform called PlayLinc, whose features will include IM and VoIP, server browsing, team management, buddy tracking and player invitations. "The platforms we are devising will reset the standards and expectations of online game players while simplifying and accelerating their ability to build highly customizable gaming communities and personalized social networks," said SCI CEO Jesper Jensen. Verizon and SCO plan a public beta test of PlayLinc this summer, and will then make the platform available to other gaming providers.
