Greenwood, Maine - GameSweet Software on Tuesday announced the release of its "Video Game Tycoon" PC game, which allows players ages 10 and up to create their own video games and burn a copy of the finished product to CD or DVD. Tools provided include elements of racing games, tank battles, aliens, paintball contests and puzzles.

Verizon, Intel Team on Displaying PC Games on TVs

New York - Verizon and Intel on Thursday announced a collaboration to enable users to play PC games on their televisions through Intel Viiv-based PCs.

The companies will also market a version of PlayLinc, a game messenger service that connects players of multiplayer titles. Verizon recently launched a $9.95 per month Games on Demand service.

Electronic Arts to Launch Retooled Online Game Distribution Service

San Jose, Calif. - Video game publisher Electronic Arts has redesigned its online game download service, the Associated Press reported. The old EA Downloader service will be replaced by EA Link, which will initially offer a selection of 16 PC games for download, with new PC titles from EA to be added day and date with their release on disc in retail stores.

Bethesda Softworks to Publish "Rogue Warrior' in Fall of 2007

Rockville, Md. - Video game publisher Bethesda Softworks on Friday announced plans to publish "Rogue Warrior" for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC in the fall of 2007. The first-person shooter is based on the best-selling book series by Dick Marcinko. The game is being developed by Seattle-based Zombie Studios in conjunction with Bethesda Softworks.

2K Ships "Stronghold Legends" PC Game

Santa Clara, Calif. - Namco Bandai Games America announced on Tuesday that it has shipped its "Snoopy vs. The Red Baron" title for Sony PSP and the PC to retailers. Developed by Utah-based Smart Bomb Interactive, the game features more than 10 other Peanuts characters.

Blizzard Delays "World of Warcraft" Expansion Pack to January

Irvine, Calif. - Vivendi Games' Blizzard Entertainment unit announced on Tuesday that it will delay the release of an anticipated expansion pack for its top-selling PC online multiplayer game "World of Warcraft" until January, missing the key holiday sales period. Irvine, Calif.-based Blizzard began closed-beta testing on "World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade" earlier this month. "By adding a few extra weeks to the development cycle beyond its original target date, Blizzard will be able to extend the closed beta test and further refine the new content that will ship with the game," the company said in a statement. "World of Warcraft" currently claims over 6.5 million subscribers.

Xfire Hits 5 Million Users for PC Game Online Community Service

Menlo Park, Calif. - Xfire, a recent $102 million acquisition of Viacom's MTV Networks that provides a free, ad-supported online community for over 600 PC games, announced on Friday that it now counts over 5 million users. Menlo Park, Calif.-based Xfire's service includes in-game messaging, voice chat, friend tracking, peer-to-peer file downloading and a game server browser.

Microsoft Announces Holiday Game Lineup for Xbox 360, PC

Barcelona, Spain - Microsoft on Thursday announced the full slate of titles for the Xbox 360, Windows-based PCs and Xbox Live Arcade for Xbox 360 that it plans to make available in time for the holiday shopping season. New Xbox 360 titles on sale will include "Gears of War," "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas," "Tony Hawk's Project 8," "Call of Duty 3" and "Dead or Alive: Xtreme 2." The company also unveiled at its X06 game convention in Barcelona that it has made id Software's "DOOM" available for purchase, download and play on the Xbox 360 through its Xbox Live Arcade service. New York - 2K, a unit of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive, said on Thursday that its "BioShock" title will be published exclusively for Xbox 360 and the PC when it is released in 2007. The game is currently in development at 2K's Irrational Games studio.

Global Star to Publish "Deal or No Deal" PC Game

New York - Global Star Software, a unit of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive, said on Tuesday that it has been granted an exclusive license from Endemol USA to develop and publisher PC games based on Endemol's TV game show "Deal or No Deal." The first title, which will feature the voice and likeness of host Howie Mandel, is slated for release in the fall.

Edison, N.J. - Video game publisher Majesco on Thursday announced a deal with developer and game technology firm Valve, to distribute Majesco PC game titles using Valve's Steam broadband gaming platform. Initial titles offered through Steam will include "BloodRayne 2" and "Advent Rising" ($19.99 each) and "BloodRayne 1" ($9.99). Developer Double Fine Productions' "Psychonauts" will be offered via Steam in early October.

Vivendi Games Ships "Joint Task Force" PC Game

Los Angeles - Vivendi Games announced on Wednesday that Netherlands-based developer HD Publishing's PC game "Joint Task Force" has shipped to retailers. The title is being published by Vivendi's Sierra Entertainment, and will be released in Europe next week.

Agoura Hills, Calif. - Video game publisher THQ announced on Wednesday that "Company of Heroes," from its internal studio Relic Entertainment, has gone gold and will ship to retailers on Sept. 14. The PC game will also ship in a version for wireless devices in the fall.
