DirecTV to Launch International Championship Gaming Series

Las Vegas - Satellite TV provider DirecTV on Tuesday announced plans to launch the Championship Gaming Series (CGS), an international video gaming league that will broadcast to over 100 million homes beginning in the spring of 2007.

Major League Gaming Inks New Deals With Pro Gamers

New York - Major League Gaming, a professional video game league, said on Monday that it has signed a $1 million contract with Team Carbon, which recently won the league's national four-man "Halo 2" title. The company also signed $25,000 deals with three members of Team Str8 Rippin; MLG signed the team's captain to a similar deal in June.

AOL Creates Co-Branded Site With Major League Gaming

Dulles, Va. - AOL said on Tuesday that it has launched a co-branded site with Major League Gaming (MLG), a professional video game league.  The site, which will be part of AOL's Gamedaily site, will feature MLG's professional gaming content, including streaming video highlights, pro player profiles, blogs and online tournaments.

World Series of Games Events to Air on CBS, CSTV, VOOM HD

New York - The World Series of Video Games announced on Monday that it has signed deals with CBS, CSTV and VOOM HD Networks' Gameplay HD to air coverage of its 2006 season on television. The agreements will bring a combined 20 hours of international video game tournament coverage to U.S. TV, including "They Got Game," a one-hour special on the stars of the World Series of Video Games that will air on CBS.

Major League Gaming Expects Record Participation in Orlando Event

New York - Major League Gaming, a tournament circuit for professional gamers, announced on Thursday that it expects its Boost Mobile MLG Pro Circuit competition in Orlando, Fla. later this month will be the largest ever console video game competition. The event will feature more than 1,000 individual competitors and over 200 four-person "Halo 2" teams, for a total of over 1,800 participants.

Las Vegas - Online gambling site Bodog.com announced on Friday that its sponsored player Jamie Gold took the top prize of $12 million in the 2006 World Series of Poker, and has signed a two-year endorsement deal with the company.

PokerFriday morning, the largest single payout in live poker history – $12 million dollars – was securily in the hands of one grand champion, Jamie Gold. He beat out the other eight players at the final prestigious table in the World Series of Poker Championship at Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. 
Poker is a game that is easy to take multiplatform and find ways for the audience to interact, as well as get sponsors in on the action. And there are no signs that the poker craze is cooling off anytime soon.

Associated Press: World Series of Poker Mixes Off-line, Online Pros

Las Vegas - The Associated Press on Monday reported on the relationship between the World Series of Poker, a real-world card game tournament, and the online gambling sites that have recently drawn the ire of the U.S. Justice Dept. It is estimated that about half of the 8,700 players at the event in Las Vegas qualified in tournaments for cash at sites like PokerStars.com, PartyPoker.com and Bodog.com -- which the government says are illegal.

San Francisco - Satellite TV provider DirecTV and IGN Entertainment announced on Thursday that they have partnered to televise the Championship Gaming Invitational, a two-day video game competition. The international competition will be taped live on Friday and Saturday in San Francisco, and is scheduled to air Aug. 25-27 on DirecTV.
