German Court Orders RapidShare to Proactively Filter Songs

Berlin - A German court has sided with copyright society GEMA against free file-hosting service Rapidshare, which must now monitor its site to ensure that some 5,000 songs are not posted for distribution on its servers, Billboard reported.

Los Angeles - Rapidshare, a free file-hosting service that has come under fire for hosting pre-release copyrighted material, has begun sharing personal information of its users in Germany with authorities there, resulting in at least one uploader's home being raided so far, TorrentFreak reported.

Berlin - Repeating a scenario recently seen in the U.K., Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube has blocked music videos on its site in Germany, after licensing negotiations with local royalty collection society GEMA broke down, Billboard reported. Last month, YouTube pulled music videos in the U.K. after failing to reach an agreement with PRS for Music, the local rights collection society.
