Gemalto, Universal Music Team on Smart Video Card Format

Amsterdam - Digital security services firm Gemalto on Thursday announced a partnership with Universal Music Group, to jointly promote the Smart Video Card as a new music distribution channel. The Gemalto platform embeds a DVD-compliant optical disc into the card body of a regular SIM card. The Smart Video Card disc can be preloaded with 120MB of content that can be played in a standard DVD Player. Gemalto will offer UMG content along with its SIM card products outside of North America.  

Gemalto Launches Program to Accelerate Multimedia Mobile Services

Amsterdam - Digital security firm Gemalto on Friday launched a program, supported by France's Industrial Innovation Agency, aimed at establishing and promoting a new industrial standard for mobile multimedia service. The MaXSSIMM program will combine a sim card, mobile phone and operator servers to allow developers to more rapidly deploy new multimedia services for phones. Supporters include chipmakers ST Microelectronics, NXP and TOPPAN; handset maker Sagem Communication; telecom Orange; and service provider Amadeus. Gemalto said live trials using the finalized technologies are expected in 2009.

T-Mobile Taps Gemalto for Czech Mobile TV Service

Amsterdam - Gemalto, a Dutch developer of security cards for mobile phones, announced on Tuesday that its digital rights management cards will be used in a two-month pilot mobile TV service from T-Mobile in the Czech Republic. A commercial launch of the Czech mobile TV service is scheduled for 2007.

MTN Taps Gemalto for Security on First African Mobile TV Service

Cape Town, South Africa - Gemalto, a developer of digital security technologies, said on Thursday that MTN Group will use its technology in the first commercial deployment of mobile TV service on the African continent. MTN South Africa's service, based on the DVB-H mobile TV standard, will be available to all of its more than five million subscribers in South Africa.
