Mountain View, Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) on Monday introduced a Google Earth application for the Apple (NASD: AAPL) iPhone and iPod touch, which will allow users to zoom in on satellite images of the planet. The free Google Earth application is available in 18 locations, and will function on both first- and second-generation iPhones operating on EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi networks. The application also includes a "Search Near Me" function that will bring up local results like nearby pizza parlors. New York - Epic Records, a unit of Sony BMG, announced on Tuesday that it has utilized the Google Earth 3D mapping program as inspiration for the artwork theme for the band Audioslave's forthcoming album, "Revelations." The "Audioslave Nation" is located in the Indian Ocean between South America and New Zealand; a link on the band's website will automatically direct a user's Google Earth desktop application to bring up the location on the virtual globe.
