Menlo Park, Calif. - Cuil, a new search engine developed by a team led by an engineer whose last search company was purchased by Google, on Monday launched a beta version of its search site.

Palo Alto, Calif. - PLYmedia, the developer of an interactive Web video platform that enables the addition of advertisements, subtitles, pop-up bubbles and other layered content to existing video, has landed $6 million to $6.5 million in new financing, TechCrunch reported, citing a source with knowledge of the deal.

Online Music Video Competition Music Nation Raises $5.5 Million

New York - Music Nation, an artist development company that hosts online music video competitions, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $5.5 million in its first round of venture capital financing, led by Greylock Partners and Point Judith Capital.

College Social Networking Site Facebook Raises $25 Million

Palo Alto, Calif. - Facebook Inc., the operator of a social networking site for college and high school students, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $25 million in venture capital financing. Greylock Partners led the investment round; Meritech Capital Partners and previous investors Accel Partners and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel also participated. Launched in 2004, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Facebook now claims over 7 million members for its service, which like similar social networks MySpace and Friendster lets members create profiles and interact with other college students online. The company, which has now raised a total of $37.7 million, said it will use the funds to improve site functionality.
