Los Angeles - The federal prosecutors handling the case against Kevin Cogill, who posted tracks from the new Guns N' Roses album "Chinese Democracy" to his website Antiquiet before its commercial release, are seeking a six-month prison term on the one misdemeanor count of pre-release piracy he faces, Wired.com reported. The government also calculated that Cogill should owe damages of $371,622, based on estimates it made on how many times the tracks were downloaded as a result of the leak; the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which has been pushing the case, itself estimated damages of $2.2 million.

New York - The first officially released song from Guns 'N Roses fourteen-years-in-the-making "Chinese Democracy" album is set to debut in September, as a track within "Rock Band 2," the sequel to Viacom-owned (NYSE: VIA) MTV Games popular music game, The New York Times reported on Monday, citing anonymous sources. Such a deal underlines the influence that the new crop of music games can have on an artist's sales. A release date for the album -- some of whose tracks were recently leaked by a blogger -- has not yet been announced, but if the "Rock Band" deal pans out, it could signal that the full album will finally be released in the fall.

"Skwerl," the operator of the blog Antiquiet, posted the tracks for streaming on his blog but quickly removed them after being contacted by representatives for the band.
