LG Electronics today announced the appointment of John Herrington to president of the LG Electronics USA Digital Appliance Division. GoFish Corporation, a user-generated video company, today announced the launch of a branded entertainment division and the appointment of three new hires to run it. C.J. Bowden, David Fisch and Lori Macias join GoFish as Vice Presidents of Branded Entertainment. Bowden, Fisch and Macias most recently were co-founders in SlingShot Media, a Los Angeles based start-up. Los Angeles - Handango, a provider of content for smartphones, announced on Tuesday that it has raised over $60 million in a new round of venture capital financing, led Institutional Venture Partners. Other investors included Advanced Technology Ventures, Centerpoint, Neo Carta, Pharos Capital Group and SSM Partners. Hurst, Texas-based Handango provides smartphone content from more than 16,000 content partners to firms including Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, RIM, HP, Verizon, T-Mobile, Microsoft and AOL. The company will use the funds for global expansion, support for new types of content and establishment of new distribution channels. Strategy Analytics projects there will by 350 million smartphone users by 2009, up from 68 million in 2005.

Barcelona - Korea's Samsung Electronics announced on Tuesday that it has signed a two-year agreement with Handango, which will become the exclusive provider of mobile content in Europe for Samsung's line of smartphones. Handango will provide content including ringtones and games to Samsung's Fun Club Software Store.
