Bob Lefsetz: Hannah Montana Ain’t That BigAuthored by Scott Goldberg on October 8, 2007 - 11:17am.
In a post from The Lefsetz Letter today, Bob discusses the artificial hype surrounding Hannah Montana and the Miley Cyrus 54-show concert tour. He argues that the ticket brokers have changed the game, now creating a fake shortage of tickets that raises the value of available seats on broker sites. Remember, online brokers like StubHub make money on the price of the sale, so the more a ticket goes for, the more they get paid; and hence, it would make sense for them to create artificially inflated prices.

Disney’s music label Hollywood Records on Wednesday unveiled a new CD format with extra features. The company hopes that the digital magazine extras, song lyrics, band photos and other extras to boost fan loyalty will encourage compact-disc purchases in an attempt to reverse declining CD sales. But it is not the first time extra features have been introduced in order to halt the decline of a dying format and the results of those attempts have not been encouraging.
