18 New Markets Add HD Digital Radio Multicast Channels

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a trade group of broadcasters promoting the adoption of technology that lets them transmit a digital radio signal alongside their analog signals, announced on Tuesday that 18 new, local markets will begin offering HD2 multicast programming this fall.

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance on Monday provided details on a $200 million ad campaign for the emerging technology that will launch in 50 U.S. radio markets. The "Discover It!" campaign will entice consumers to purchase HD digital radios, which can pick up the digital "stations between the stations" that radio stations broadcasting an HD Radio signal provide. The group also said that Amazon.com has been added to its roster of retailers selling HD radio receivers, joining RadioShack, Tweeter and Crutchfield. Members of the HD Digital Radio Alliance include radio station owners ABC Radio, CBS Radio, Citadel, Clear Channel, Cumulus, Emmis, Entercom and Greater Media.

HD Digital Radio Alliance Ups HD2 Multicast Station Offerings

Orlando, Fla. - The HD Digital Radio Alliance, a trade group of broadcasters looking to accelerate the rollout of the digital radio broadcasting format, said on Monday that new HD2 multicast programming is set to launch in 22 additional markets. HD2 multicasts -- essentially additional radio channels offered by a radio station through digital technology -- will now be offered in 50 markets, making for a total of some 450 available multicast channels.
