Starz Licenses Japanese Manga Classics to Heavy.com

New York - Liberty Media's cable TV venture Starz Media said on Monday that it has licensed 40 hours of popular Japanese manga content for distribution on its soon-to-relaunch Manga.com, as well as to independent site Heavy.com. The deal includes popular franchises "Ghost in the Shell," "Astro Boy" and "Ninja Scroll."

Heavy.com Debuts Premium Video Ad Network

New York - Entertainment website Heavy.com on Monday announced the public beta launch of a new premium video ad network, which the company says will allow bloggers and publishers to monetize their videos. The Husky Network will wrap any video player, such as those featured on YouTube, Revver and Google Video, with a video skin designed for brand advertisers. Heavy.com said that it has used video skins to success for more than three years.

Warner Bros., Heavy.com Add Programming to Joost

New York - Warner Bros. Television Group will make its television programming available for the Joost online video service, the two companies announced on Monday. Warner Bros. will create sci-fi and "Before They Were Stars" branded channels on Joost to feature episodes of shows including "Babylon 5," "Growing Pains" and "Welcome Back, Kotter." New York-based Joost also on Monday announced a similar deal with broadband entertainment site Heavy.com, and recently signed agreements to add feature-length video content from Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting System, Sony, and Hasbro Inc. to its peer-to-peer-based, ad-supported streaming service.

Broadband Entertainment Site Heavy.com Raises $20 Million

Heavy.com, a digital entertainment brand for young men, today announced the appointment of Doug Rohrer as Executive Vice President, Revenue. Rohrer will oversee all revenue streams of the property with an emphasis on ad sales. Rohrer has spent the last 20 years driving record setting ad revenue for MTV Networks and Turner Broadcasting. He most recently held the position of Executive Vice President, Emerging Media, MTV Networks.

New York - Broadband entertainment site Heavy.com on Wednesday announced the launch of an online dating game, "Massive Mating Game," that will use the Internet and text messages to pair a "Heavy Hottie" chosen by site visitors with one grand prize winner for a date and weekend trip to Las Vegas.

New York - Heavy.com, a broadband entertainment website that claims 10 million unique monthly viewers, announced on Tuesday that it has raised $10 million in a new round of financing, led by Polaris Venture Partners. Founded in 1999, New York-based Heavy.com offers original online entertainment programs like "Behind the Music that Sucks" and "Pimp My Weapon," in addition to short-form video, animation and machinima. In coming months, the company plans to launch a broadband community called MyHeavy.com, as well as a network based on its "Teriyaki Strips" channel. Heavy.com will use the funds to accelerate the roll-out of original programming for online and mobile consumption.

Heavy.com Launches Burger King-Sponsored Video Podcast

New York - Broadband entertainment site Heavy.com announced on Thursday that fast food chain Burger King will sponsor a series of free video podcast programs produced by Heavy.com. The podcasts will include episodes of Heavy.com Web-based programs like "Behind the Music that Sucks" and "Archibald of Uranus."
