RealNetworks, CableLabs Security to Enable Digital Cable-Ready PC's

Seattle - RealNetworks, a provider of media delivery technology, announced on Monday that CableLabs, the cable TV industry's standards body, has approved its Helix Digital Rights Management technology, which will allow PC makers to develop digital cable-ready PCs. Real's Helix DRM will ensure secure delivery of cable TV programming to he media center PC through removable CableCARD devices.

RealNetworks Introduces Helix Server for Mobile Streaming

Seattle - RealNetworks, a provider of media delivery technology, on Wednesday announced the release of its Helix Server Unlimited, which companies can use to deliver streaming media content to wireless devices. The new server includes support for 3GPP technology, which initial customers including the City of Seattle and Virginia Tech University will use to stream mobile video programming to cell phones.

Tapwave's "Helix" Handheld Game to Target Older Audience Than Game Boy

Los Angeles -- Tapwave, a developer of multi-functional handheld video game devices, on Monday announced the launch of Helix, its first product, Reuters reported. The handheld device, which runs on the PalmOS operating system and includes Palm's organizer features, also plays full-motion video and MP3 music in addition to games that will be developed by firms including Activision, Infogrames and Midway. Tapwave says it will target mobile gamers 18 years to 34 years old who have "graduated" from Nintendo's Game Boy Advance, which currently dominates the market. RealNetworks Introduces Digital Rights Management Software for Helix

Las Vegas -- RealNetworks, a developer of media delivery technologies, announced on Thursday the release of digital rights management software for its open-source, Helix DNA media delivery platform. The software, available now in beta and in a final version in the second quarter, will allow content owners and consumer electronics manufacturers to deliver secured media to PCs, home appliances, and mobile terminals. The software will enable digital rights management to be embedded into media in formats including RealAudio, RealVideo, MPEG-4, MP3, H.263 video, and AAC and Narrowband AMR audio. Among those endorsing the security software are Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment, cable TV video-on-demand channel Starz On Demand, major record label EMI Recorded Music, Internet-based video-on-demand site Movielink, and Triggerstreet.com, actor Kevin Spacey's new online community for amateur filmmakers. http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/030109/sfw100_1.html
