Redwood City, Calif. - Zazzle, an on-demand retail platform that lets consumers personalize music merchandise and other products, said on Tuesday that it Disney's Hollywood Records will offer its service for artists including Plain White T's and Breaking Benjamin. Redwood City, Calif.-based Zazzle has previously signed similar deals with MySpace, Live Nation and Warner Music Group. San Francisco - Zinio, a provider of digital publishing and distribution for magazines and books, said on Tuesday that Disney Music Group will implement its CDVU+ format on upcoming releases next year from artists including Atreyu, Hillary Duff, Jesse McCartney and Vanessa Hudgens. The CDVU+ format -- which eliminates the traditional CD booklet and jewel case -- includes interactive "digital magazine" elements and band photos that can be printed at home, as well as song lyrics, behind the scenes videos, and Web links to exclusive content. Disney’s music label Hollywood Records on Wednesday unveiled a new CD format with extra features. The company hopes that the digital magazine extras, song lyrics, band photos and other extras to boost fan loyalty will encourage compact-disc purchases in an attempt to reverse declining CD sales. But it is not the first time extra features have been introduced in order to halt the decline of a dying format and the results of those attempts have not been encouraging.

Burbank, Calif. - Disney's Hollywood Records label said on Wednesday that it will introduce the first album in the new CDVU+ format with the August 7 release of the Jonas Brothers self-titled record. The CD will come in eco-friendly packaging, without a traditional CD booklet. Instead, the disc will "'reads' like a digital magazine full of exclusive content, hidden 'easter eggs,' and interactive goodies that, once downloaded, can be accessed both on and offline." |
