Report: U.S. Online Video Viewing Dips 2.5% in January

Reston, Va. - Online video viewing in the U.S. was down 2.5% in January, to 32.4 billion views, according to a report from Internet audience measurement firm comScore. The number of unique viewers also fell to 173.4 million, from 177.9 million in December.

New York - Hulu, the online video portal joint venture between News Corp., NBC Universal and Disney, announced on Monday that it has added a range of content from NFL Films to the service. The deal includes more than 600 videos featuring over 400 hours of NFL content, including NFL Films shows like "Game of the Week," "Hard Knocks," "Team Highlights" and "America's Game: The Super Bowl Champions."

Viacom to Pull Comedy Central Shows Down From Hulu

New York - Media conglomerate Viacom (NYSE: VIA), which owns Paramount Pictures and MTV Networks, will remove Comedy Central content from the Hulu video portal joint venture as of March 9, according to a Hulu blog post. After a 21-month stay, episodes of popular Comedy Central programs like "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report" will no longer be available on the ad-supported Hulu, a joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) and Disney (NYSE: DIS).

Los Angeles - "Idol" franchise creator Simon Fuller will debut his new talent series, "If I Can Dream," on the Hulu video portal on March 2, Billboard reports. The series -- Hulu's first original show -- will follow aspiring performers culled from auditions on MySpace.

Providence Backs Baidu's Hulu-like Video Portal Venture

New York - Hulu, the video portal joint venture between News Corp. (NYSE: NWS), NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) and Disney (NYSE: DIS), said that its monthly users grew by 95% in 2009, to over 43 million, while monthly streams increased 307%, to 924 million. Over 6.4 million Hulu players were embedded on third-party websites, up 237% from 2008, while the company's library of content grew to 14,000 hours. The most popular clip of 2009 was SNL's "Motherlover," while the most popular full episode was Family Guy's "Stew-Roids."

Warner Music Brining Artist-focused Channels to Hulu

New York - Major record label Warner Music Group (NYSE: WMG) has signed a deal to feature its artists' content on Hulu, the video portal joint venture between News Corp., NBC Universal and Disney. The deal will see Warner created artist-focused channels on Hulu featuring music videos, interviews, live concerts and rare footage. Hulu signed a similar deal with fellow major label EMI in November.

19 Entertainment Web Series "If I Can Dream" to Launch on Hulu

Los Angeles - Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment production company announced on Thursday that it will offer a new Web reality series, "If I Can Dream," via Hulu in early 2010. The series, which "will give viewers a documentary-like look at what it takes to achieve success and recognition in Hollywood," has already landed Pepsi and Ford as sponsors, while Clear Channel Radio will promote the series on-air, and MySpace will provide online promotion. Fans will be able to interact with the five-member cast via social media, and upload their reviews of the cast's various performances on the series' website.

Dallas - AT&T (NYSE: T) on Thursday announced the launch of AT&T Entertainment, a new Hulu-like website that offers thousands of streaming TV shows and movies from partners including ABC (NYSE: DIS), NBC Universal (NYSE: GE) and (NYSE: CBS)CBS. The free site is available to all consumers, not just subscribers to AT&T services. The company said it plans to add more programming from additional providers in the coming months.

New York - Online Americans are watching more full-length movies and TV shows online, as 26% report having streamed a TV show and 14% a feature-length film in the past 30 days, according to a report from market research firm Ipsos MediaCT.
