Head of Yahoo's Music Unit Leaves to Join Start-up

Sunnyvale, Calif. - Ian Rogers, the head of Yahoo's (NASD: YHOO) Music unit, has stepped down to go work at a music-related start-up he co-founded, according to a post on his blog. Rogers, Yahoo's VP of video and music applications, will join Topspin Media, which will offer some sort of distribution service for independent artists.

Over the past week, rumors have circulated that Facebook is getting into the digital music market. Some reports suggest the social networking site is going to launch an MP3-store; others say that it is an "artist platform" similar to MySpace. The latter makes the most sense, giving a boost to third-party Facebook Platform music applications, rather than getting into what is becoming an increasingly competitive space.
