Mountain View, Calif. - Google (NASD: GOOG) announced on Wednesday the launch of a new music-focused search feature, "OneBox," which adds streaming songs via Lala and MySpace's (NYSE: NWS) iLike, along with links to an artist's website. Along with Lala and iLike, Google will also include links to digital music services Pandora, imeem and Rhapsody (NASD: RNWK). The feature will in many cases allow users to listen to the full song they are searching for right there from the search results page; licensing issues mean that some songs will only feature 30-second samples, and that subsequent searches after a song is streamed in full once will only provide a 30-second sample.

Reports: Google, Lala, iLike Teaming on Music Service

San Francisco - Google (NASD: GOOG) is gearing up to launch a new music-related search service, likely called One Box, according to published reports. CNET News.com reports that One Box will organize music-related search query results, to include artist bios, videos and song samples from partners Lala and MySpace-owned iLike -- which have licensing deals with the major labels.

MySpace Acquires Music Discovery Service iLike

Los Angeles - News Corp.'s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace on Wednesday announced that it will acquire iLike, the provider of a music discovery service with 55 million users. While financial details were not disclosed, reports earlier this week pegged the purchase price at around $20 million.

Palo Alto, Calif. - News Corp.'s MySpace online social network is poised to close a deal to acquire iLike, a social music service and popular application on rival Facebook, for around $20 million, TechCrunch reports. Founded in 2006, iLike has raised $16.5 million to date and now counts 50 million registered users for its service, which monitors listening habits and can make musical recommendations.

Seattle - Social music service iLike on Tuesday introduced a new Local Concerts application for Apple's iPhone and iPod touch, in addition to some 250 artist-specific iPhone applications, for artists including Sonic Youth and Reba McEntire. The concert application will scan a user's iPod or iPhone, and display upcoming shows in a user's area based on interests, complete with links to purchase tickets.

Seattle - Social music discovery service iLike on Wednesday introduced integration of its service with Twitter, YouTube, MySpace and Ticketmaster, as well as a service to help bands create their own iPhone applications. The more than 300,000 artists who use iLike will be able to link their iLike accounts with existing accounts on Twitter and YouTube, as well as shunt concert listings to their MySpace pages.

TuneCore Artists Now Paid When Songs Streamed via iLike

Seattle - Social music discovery service iLike announced on Monday a partnership with TuneCore, a digital music distribution service focused on independent artists. Under the deal, artists who sign up to distribute their music via TuneCore to services like iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon MP3 will now also receive compensation whenever their songs are streamed on iLike.com. The agreement also covers iLike's syndication network, which includes streaming players for Facebook, Hi5, Orkut and Bebo.

San Francisco - Social music discovery service iLike on Wednesday announced the launch of a developer platform, which will allow third parties to integrate iLike interactive music features into their applications and websites. Launch partners include Google, Evite, Slide, Flixster, Six Apart/Typepad and dozens of Facebook application developers. The platform will allow, for instance, Blogger and TypePad bloggers to add iLike playlists to their blogs, and Evite users to include group-editable playists on their invitations.

R.E.M. to Exclusively Premiere New Album on iLike

Seattle - Warner Bros. Records (NYSE: WMG) recording artists R.E.M. will premiere their upcoming album, "Accelerate," exclusively on the iLike social music discovery service. iLike, which claims 23 million registered users, said the album will begin streaming from its site on March 24, six days before its North American release on April 1. The band will also offer an exclusive video message introducing and discussing the album through iLike.

200,000 Bands Using iLike to Manage Social Net Profiles

Seattle - Social music discovery service iLike said on Wednesday that more than 200,000 musicians, including half of the top 500 acts in music, are using its service to manage their profiles on social networks including Facebook, hi5 and Bebo. Artists including Radiohead, Linkin Park, 50 Cent and Herbie Hancock use the iLike Universal Artist Dashboard to post songs, videos, tour dates and other information across the various social networks. iLike, which claims 23 million registered users for its own service, said its Artist Dashboard also soon support MySpace and Orkut, following the launch of Google's OpenSocial.

New York - Mobile entertainment distributor Thumbplay on Thursday announced a deal with iLike, a social music discovery application that claims 15 million users, that will place "Get ringtone" links on artist, album and song pages on iLike.com and the iLike Facebook application. Seattle - Social music discovery service iLike announced on Monday a promotional partnership with independent label Eleven Seven Music, whose artists will post original content such as music videos, tour diaries and video messages on iLike.com and iLike's Facebook application. Artists participating in the promotion include SIXX A.M., Drowning Pool and Motley Crue. iLike says that over 150,000 artists are using iLike to connect with the service's 15 million users.
