U.S. Patent Office to Revoke Instant Live Concert CD Patent

- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office announced on Tuesday that it will revoke a patent on live concert recording technology owned by Instant Live -- which was a part of Clear Channel Communications until it was spun-off along with other assets in December 2005 to form Live Nation -- following a successful challenge launched last year by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a digital civil liberties advocate. The patent was related to the process used by Instant Live to capture and mix live music concerts and then burn them onto CD so fans can purchase them at the venue immediately following the show.

Instant Live to Sell Post-Concert CDs from Yo-Yo Ma Tour

Los Angeles - Instant Live, a unit of concert promoter Live Nation, said on Friday that it will distribute live concert recordings for several dates on The Silk Road Project featuring Yo-Yo Ma Your. The company partnered with Sony Classical on the endeavor, which will offer concertgoers CDs of the performance for sale at the venue immediately after the show. Los Angeles-based Instant Live has also distributed live recordings from the Pixies, Bauhaus and the Black Crowes.

Instant Live to Offer Concert Downloads in SRS Surround Sound

Santa Ana, Calif. - SRS Labs, a developer of virtual surround-sound technology, announced on Monday an agreement with Instant Live, a firm that records live concert performances and offers them on CD and as downloads following the show. Under the deal, Instant Live will offer concert recordings in SRS' Circle Surround 5.1 format.

Napster to Sell Concert Downloads from Clear Channel's Instant Live

Los Angeles - Napster announced on Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with concert promoter Clear Channel Entertainment, to sell song downloads of live concert performances recorded by Clear Channel's Instant Live unit. Instant Live records live performances on-site and distributes live CD recordings to concertgoers at the venue following the show. Instant Live recordings available now from Napster include performances from The Allman Brothers Band, Bauhaus and The Black Crowes.
