provider of mobile communications services, said on Wednesday that it has
acquired mobile social networking firm Intercasting Corporation for an
undisclosed sum.

New York - Viacom's (NYSE: VIA) MTV Networks said on Wednesday that it has partnered with mobile social networking firm Intercasting, to develop a mobile social network around MTV Tr3s, the company's Latino youth channel. The Con3xion mobile social network will allow users to view photos, send and receive messages, post comments, and search profiles on their phones. MTV said that Con3xion will be expanded to the Web in the near future, and that it plans to work with Intercasting to develop mobile social networks for other MTV properties. Cambridge, Mass. -- Intercasting Corp., a provider of "location-aware" media networking technology for mobile devices, has raised 5.5 million in its first round of venture capital, led by Masthead Venture Partners and Avalon Ventures. San Diego-based Intercasting is partnering with wireless carriers to bring to market applications that allow people to communicate with each other and broadcast their amateur video, podcasts and photos to one another using their cell phones.
