Autodesk to Buy 3D Modeling Company Skymatter

San Rafael, CA. Autodesk announced on Monday that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of New Zealand-based Skymatter Limited, the developer of Mudbox 3D modelling software. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Why I Didn’t Buy An iPhone: The Network

I just bought a Blackberry 8830 from Verizon, forgoing the opportunity to be among the first iPhone owners. This decision surprised me because I had been eagerly looking forward to the iPhone after praising it as a truly innovative product, despite much tech geek snarking. And now that the mainstream tech pundocracy has weighted in, it appears that the iPhone does indeed live up to expectations — mostly.

Today, Hitwise is issuing a news release about the growth of the Entertainment category. In doing our research, we noticed that YouTube looks set to overtake BBC.co.uk in share of UK visits within a matter of weeks.

Buzz Watch: The Backlash to the Media Coverage of Anna Nicole Smith’s Death

From the death of John F. Kennedy to the Challenger explosion to 9/11, many of the greatest moments in journalists’ careers came after unexpected tragic events. However, while we might have expected things like Ryan Seacrest’s first ever breaking news bulletin after the death of Anna Nicole Smith (interrupting a re-run of “The Simple Life” on E! to bring viewers the heartbreaking news), it was more surprising that reputed news outlets like CNN devoted hours and hours to push the story, as this website noted in a spoof. However, the decision to let the Anna Nicole story take precedence over “hard news” was not without internal friction.
