Blu-ray, HD DVD Hack Blocked by AACS Security Developers

Los Angeles - The technology and entertainment firms that developed the AACS (Advanced Access Content System) security protecting next-generation Blu-ray and HD DVD discs have taken steps to block a breach found by hackers that allowed discs to be copied.

Ottawa, Canada - Corel Corporation, a provider of productivity, graphics and digital imaging software, announced on Monday that it has acquired InterVideo, a developer of multimedia DVD software, for about $196 million in cash.

Multimedia Developer InterVideo Settles Patent Suit With PC Maker Acer

Fremont, Calif. -- InterVideo, a provider of software to consumer electronics and PC manufacturers, said on Tuesday that it has agreed to settle its patent infringement claims against computer maker Acer. As part of the deal, InterVideo will license its InstantON patents to Compal Electronics, the company that manufactures Acer's PCs. The two companies also will partner to develop multimedia applications and portable consumer electronic devices. In all, InterVideo has agreed to license 26 of its patents to Compal for use in manufacturing the Acer Aspire 2000 and Acer Aspire 2020 notebook computers. Other details of the settlement were not disclosed. InterVideo subsidiary InterVideo Digital Technology had filed patent infringement lawsuits in Texas and Taiwan against Acer for infringement of various patents relating to the technology.

DVD Software Maker InterVideo to Repurchase $10 Million in Shares

Fremont, Calif. -- InterVideo, a developer of DVD creation and editing software, announced on Monday that its board of directors has approved a $10 million stock repurchase program, which many companies do when they believe their shares are currently being undervalued on the market. Fremont, Calif.-based InterVideo recently reported $71 million in cash and short term investments, and 13.5 million shares of common stock outstanding.
