AT&T to Double 3G Network Speed in L.A., 5 Other Cities

Dallas - AT&T (NYSE: T) on Wednesday announced plans to double the speed of its 3G wireless network in six major cities this year, including Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Miami and Charlotte. The company plans to deploy the speed-boosting HSPA 7.2 technology in 25 of the top 30 U.S. markets by the end of 2010, and across 90% of its existing 3G network footprint by the end of 2011.

YouTube: Mobile Vids Up 400% a Day Since iPhone 3GS Debut

San Bruno, Calif. - Google's (NASD: GOOG) YouTube said on Thursday that mobile uploads to the site have jumped 1700% in the past six months, and have been rising 400% per day since Friday, when Apple's (NASD: AAPL) new video-capable iPhone 3GS went on sale. The company did not break down the numbers any further, to state how many mobile videos are uploaded daily, or by device, or what percentage they represent of the total videos uploaded to YouTube, NewTeeVee noted.

El Segundo, Calif. - Apple's (NASD: AAPL) iPhone 3GS costs about $179 in total to make, including materials and manufacturing costs, according to a teardown of the device performed by market research firm iSuppli.

Cupertino, Calif. - Just three days after launching its new iPhone 3GS model, Apple (NASD: AAPL) said on Monday that it already has sold more than 1 million of the smartphones. In addition, the company said that over 6 million customers have downloaded its new iPhone 3.0 software in the first five days of its release.
