Apple Introduces iPhone, iPod Touch Models with More Memory

Cupertino, Calif. - Apple (NASD: AAPL) on Tuesday introduced new iPhone and iPod touch models with increased memory, including a 16GB iPhone ($499) and 32B iPod touch ($499). "For some users, there's never enough memory," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's vice president of worldwide iPod and iPhone product marketing. "Now people can enjoy even more of their music, photos and videos on the most revolutionary mobile phone and best Wi-Fi mobile device in the world."

So you plan to give someone an iPhone for Christmas or even treat yourself to one of these little tech wonders? Well, you might be well advised to hold on to your old Blackberry for a few more months. A report today suggests that Apple (NASD: AAPL) plans to have a faster and better 3G iPhone on store shelves by June at the latest.

The new iPod Touch gives the user the ability to surf the Internet via WiFi access. This brings up an interesting question – is it possible to get Skype on the iPod Touch and call for a lower fee or even for free? If so, do you need an iPhone or a wireless provider, really?
