Nokia Inks Promotional Deal With Universal Music, Rihanna

Los Angeles - Nokia (NYSE: NOK) on Thursday announced a promotional partnership with Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Music Group International, which will exclusively premiere tracks from Rihanna's forthcoming album with Nokia. The deal includes an exclusive, live streamed concert on Nokia websites. Additionally, Comes With Music customers will receive a version of the album with a bonus track and other additional content, while the Ovi Store will offer a Rihanna application with exclusive content.

Mottola Company Teams With Planet Cazmo on Virtual Concerts

New York - Planet Cazmo, an online virtual world for 'tweens and teens, on Wednesday announced a partnership with record industry veteran Tommy Mottola's The Mottola Company, to support Cazmo's virtual concert series and other branded content initiatives. The companies will "work together to secure strategic partnerships with major music industry and branded properties which will bring celebrity content into the virtual world in the form of virtual goods via microtransactions." Cazmo, which has hosted virtual concerts featuring artists including Soulja Boy, Ciara and Jordin Sparks, also said that it has signed Island Def Jam and The Jive Label Group as new label partners for the concert series.

San Jose, Calif. - Vusion, a provider of HD-quality streaming video distribution services, on Monday announced its official launch and the signing of Island Def Jam Music Group as its first customer.

Island Def Jam Taps mSpot for Mobile Radio Service

New York - Universal Music Group's Island Def Jam Music Group has announced plans to launch a mobile radio subscription service powered by mSpot. The IDJ Radio service will charge an as yet undisclosed monthly fee, and eventually be available through multiple carriers. The service will focus on contemporary hip-hop/R&B, old school/classics, Reggaeton/Latin hip-hop and special programming by featured Island Def Jam artists and artists on other labels, and also offer on-demand videos. Palo Alto, Calif.-based mSpot's mobile radio services already stream more than 100 channels of music, news, sports, finance, weather and talk radio to mobile phones in North America.

Gideon Yu, YouTube's former chief financial officer, has been hired as Facebook's new CFO, according to a story in The Wall Street Journal.  Yu, 36, replaces Mike Sheridan, who joined Facebook in September, according the Journal story. Why Mike Sheridan is leaving remains unclear.
