Aviary Raises $7 Million for Online Editing Software

Long Island, N.Y. - Aviary, a provider of online digital content creation and editing software, announced on Monday that it has closed a $7 million second round of financing, led by Spark Capital with participation from Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) founder Jeff Bezos' Bezos Expeditions.

Seattle - Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) will replace the e-book copies of George Orwell's "1984" it remotely deleted from its customers' Kindle e-book reader devices, or else provide a $30 Amazon credit, or cash, TechCrunch reported.

Seattle - Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) has been sued by a high school student whose e-book copy of George Orwell's "1984" -- along with all of his digital annotations -- were remotely deleted from his Kindle by Amazon after the company realized the e-book had been sold without proper permissions.

Seattle - After a snafu prompted Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) last week to remotely delete a number of improperly licensed e-books from customers' Kindle e-book reader devices, CEO Jeff Bezos issued an apology for the controversy. "Our 'solution' to the problem was stupid, thoughtless, and painfully out of line with our principles," Bezos wrote on the Amazon Kindle Community forum.

Washington - Speculation has heated up within the local tech community about who President-elect Barack Obama will appoint as his new chief technology officer (CTO) and just what that person's role might be, The Washington Post reported. Those talked about for the position on numerous sites like ObamaCTO.org include Julius Genachowski, a member of Obama's transition team and a former advisor to the Federal Communication Commission, Microsoft (NASD: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer, Amazon (NASD: AMZN) CEO Jeff Bezos and Vint Cerf, who currently holds the title of chief Internet evangelist at Google (NASD: GOOG).
