Tokyo - A report in Japan's Nihon Keizai newspaper states that News Corporation and Softbank are set to launch a 50-50 joint venture that will bring the MySpace online social network to Japan, Reuters reported.

Los Angeles - Reality TV producer Mark Burnett ("Survivor," "The Apprentice") announced on Wednesday that he has formed a joint venture with music producer Emilio Estefan, to develop multimedia entertainment for the Hispanic community that will be distributed on the Internet, mobile devices and network broadcast.

SanDisk to Team With Toshiba on New $5 Billion Japanese Plant

Milpitas, Calif. - Japanese electronics giant Toshiba said on Friday that it will team with Milpitas, Calif.-based SanDisk to build a new $5.2 billion flash memory plant in Japan. The companies have jointly operated a Japanese plant for the past year, but said that rapid growth in the flash memory market from the proliferation of products such as MP3 music players and mobile phones has necessitated a larger facility. The new facility, to be known as Fab 4, is expected to be operational by late 2007, with an initial capacity of 2,500 wafers a month. By late 2008, the companies said that the plant will be able to produce 67,500 wafers a month.

New York - K2B, a developer of TV "place-shifting" technology that lets users watch their home TV channels and recorded programs while away on Internet-connected devices, announced on Tuesday a strategic partnership with Asian online entertainment firm Emphasis Services Limited (ESL). New York-based K2B said the deal includes a major cash infusion, and new sales and marketing support for its products in Asia. The companies formed a joint venture called TV2Me Laboratories, which aims to drive wider adoption of K2B's TV2Me technology around the world.

Warner Music Forms Korean Digital Music Joint Venture with SK Telecom

Hong Kong - Warner Music International has partnered with South Korean telco SK Telecom to form a new joint venture that will distribute music from Warner's Korean artists both online and to mobile phones in Korea. Warner will have majority ownership of WS Entertainment, which will be funded by $8.6 million from Warner Music Korea and SK Telecom's Seoul Records, as well as the SK-KTB Music Investment Fund. "Today's first-of-its-kind agreement with SK Telecom, one of the world's most technologically advanced media distributors, is part of Warner Music's broader strategy to partner with a wide array of innovative companies to sign, develop and distribute music-based content," said Alex Zubillaga, executive vice president of digital strategy and business development at Warner Music Group.
