Darien, Conn. - Jupitermedia, a provider of images, information and events for IT, business and creative professionals, said on Wednesday that it has paid $20 million in cash to acquire New York-based Mediabistro.com, a popular career and community site for media and creative professionals.

Mochila to Syndicate Photos From Getty Images, Others to Blogs

New York - Mochila, a provider of content syndication for news organizations and bloggers, said on Thursday that it has signed deals to make images from three major photo agencies -- Getty Images, Zuma Press and Jupitermedia -- available for licensing by its customers. Revenue from advertising appearing on sites where the content is syndicated will be split between the copyright holder, website syndicating the content, and Mochila.

New York - Jupitermedia Corporation, a provider of industry analysis, as well as stock images and digital media, announced this week that its Jupiterimages division has acquired the assets of a number of royalty-free music and sound effects services from Mediatone Music.

Darien, Conn. - Jupitermedia, the provider of original information, images and digital content, said on Thursday that its Jupiterimages division has acquired Cover - Imagen y Publicaciones, a Spain-based distributor of local and international rights-managed images. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition gives Jupiterimages, which already owns a library of more than 7 million online images online, about 1.5 million more images that are distributed in Spain. Alan Meckler, the chairman and CEO of Jupitermedia, said that the deal will help his company grow its presence in Spain, just as it has in France and Germany over the past year.

XM Satellite Radio has named Vernon Irvin as Chief Marketing Officer, the company announced today. Irvin will oversee XM's strategic marketing efforts with responsibility for a number of operating groups, including media and brand marketing; retail, direct and partnership marketing; and, marketing operations, which includes service offerings, pricing, retention and market research. Irvin joins XM from VeriSign, where he has served since 2003 as EVP and General Manager for the company's communications services group. Irvin will report to Nate Davis, President and COO for the company, effective November 14.

New York - Jupitermedia, an Internet company whose products include technology news and image libraries, announced on Monday that it has acquired the assets of RoyaltyFreeMusic.com, which includes over 1,100 royalty-free tracks.

New York - Jupitermedia Corporation's Jupiterimages unit announced on Wednesday that it has acquired certain assets of Steve Shapiro Music, including a library of over 2,200 royalty-free music tracks. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The purchase follows Jupitermedia's recent acquisitions of Crank City Music and BBM.net. "Jupitermedia is now one of the largest owners of digitized royalty-free music for promotional and Web use in the world," said chairman and CEO Alan M. Meckler.

Jupitermedia Acquires U.K.-based BananaStock for $19 Million

Darien, Conn. - Jupitermedia, a provider of information, images, research and events for the IT, business and graphic design markets, has acquired BananaStock, a U.K.-based provider of royalty-free digital images, for $19 million in cash. "BananaStock's operations complement our existing direct sales operations in the U.K. and will enable further expansion of our JupiterImages business throughout Europe," said Alan Meckler, chairman and CEO of Jupitermedia. Cathy Yeulet, founder and principal creative director of BananaStock, will continue to provide images for BananaStock and JupiterImages through an ongoing production agreement, Meckler said.

Jupitermedia Acquires PictureArts for $63.2 Million

Darien, Conn. -- Jupitermedia, a provider of information, images, research and events for the IT, business and creative sectors, has acquired PictureArts, a California-based producer and distributor of specialized image collections. The acquisition was priced at $63.2 million in cash. Founded in 1984 by husband and wife team Jeffrey Burke and Lorraine Triolo, PictureArts offers a variety of resources to advertisers, designers, publishers and other communications professionals. Jupitermedia said that it financed the purchase price with cash on hand and borrowings under a $90 million senior credit facility with JPMorgan Chase Bank, which was obtained in connection with the PictureArts acquisition.

Jupitermedia Predicts 17% Annual Growth for Online Retail Sales

Darien, Conn. -- Market research and analysis firm Jupitermedia predicts that total online retail sales will reach $65 billion in 2004 and continue growing 17% annually through 2008, at which point annual sales should total about $117 billion, or 5% of overall U.S. retail sales. While that it is a relatively small slice, Jupitermedia said, the use of the Web by consumers to research product information plays a significant role in purchasing decision. The firm said that it expects that nearly 30% of all offline purchases by consumers in 2008 will be influenced by research performed online.

Jupitermedia Computer Digital Expo to Compete With Struggling Comdex

Darien, Conn. -- The bankruptcy of Comdex, once the mother of all computer trade shows, has provided Jupitermedia Corp. with an opening, and the trade show and Internet analyst firm created from the now-defunct Jupiter Media Metrix has wasted no time in announcing its Computer Digital Expo. The fall show will run Nov. 17 to 21 in Las Vegas, in the same city and at the same time that Comdex runs. Jupitermedia's event will consist of four days of exhibits and five days of seminars at the new 1.8 million square foot Mandalay Bay Convention Center and hotel campus. "The computer and IT industries require a dynamic exhibition and conference that covers the expansion of technology from computers to the numerous digital devices that are driving today's information technologies," said Alan Meckler, chairman and CEO of Jupitermedia.
