RealD Touts 3D TV Deals with Sony, Samsung, Others

Las Vegas - RealD, a developer of digital 3D technology, said on Thursday that it is working with Sony, JVC, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic and DirecTV to bring its stereoscopic RealD format to consumers' homes. The company will work with its partners to integrate 3D into HD televisions, and to develop both active and passive 3D glasses. RealD said that its format is compatible with the existing HD infrastructure, and can deliver 3D across cable, satellite, packaged media and the Internet.

Analysis: Set-Top, Shmet-Top: TV Makers Take It Inside

The annual CEDIA Expo has been underway in Denver this week, where consumer electronics manufacturers were unveiling their newest top-of-line hardware for an audience of custom home theater installers. This year's show was heavy on (very) high-end Blu-ray Disc players from Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, JVC and others (not much for the Wal-Mart crowd there). But it also featured hardware makers' first substantial forays into Internet-enabled TV sets, which are designed to serve as their own bridge between the Web-delivered video and the big-screen TV in the living room without the need of a separate set-top box or PC.

JVC Introduces Two Flash-based MP3 Players

Wayne, N.J. - Japanese consumer electronics firm JVC on Tuesday introduced two new Flash memory-based MP3 players, each of which features an analog input for direct recording, and comes in one of three colors. The $99 XA-F57 features 512MB of memory and comes in white, pink or silver, while the 1GB, $149 XA-F107 is available in gray, pink or black. Both players will go on sale later this month.
