Calif. - Yahoo (NASD: YHOO) has shuttered its
Bix online karaoke service, which the company acquired back in 2006, TechCrunch
reports. Yahoo confirmed that it closed the service down on June 30, as
"part of the ongoing prioritization efforts at Yahoo, where we are
increasing investment in some areas while scaling back in others."

Foster City, Calif. - Sony Computer Entertainment America on Tuesday shipped its "SingStar Pop" karaoke-style singing game for PlayStation 2 to retailers. Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's London Studio, the sequel to "SingStar Rocks" lets players sing along to 30 actual music videos from artists including Destiny's Child, A-Ha, U2, James Blunt, Franz Ferdinand and Whitney Houston. San Francisco - SingShot, a start-up digital music company founded by former RealNetworks employees who worked on the Rhapsody music service, on Monday announced the launch of their American Idol-style online karaoke community. The site lets users record their own karaoke versions of thousands of available songs and post them online; other users can then rate and comment on their recordings. SingShot performances can also be embedded into users' personal blogs and MySpace pages, and shared via e-mail. A two-week free trial of the service is available, after which time SingShot is available for between $4.95 and $9.95 per month, depending on the subscription plan.

Los Angeles - Fox Interactive Media, the News Corporation unit whose recent acquisitions include MySpace and Scout Media, announced on Monday that it has completed its acquisition of early-stage companies Newroo and kSolo.com. San Francisco-based Newroo provides a search tool that helps users create their own websites by aggregating and remixing content from third-party websites and blogs, while kSolo.com is an online karaoke site that lets users share their performances. Financial terms of both transactions were not disclosed. "Fox Interactive Media's acquisitions of Newroo and kSolo demonstrate our commitment to empowering users with interesting tools that they can use to further enhance their online experience and online identity," said Fox Interactive Media president Ross Levinsohn. The company plans to utilize the technologies across various Fox Interactive Media properties.

Irvine, Calif. - Interactive Television Networks, a provider of IPTV services, said on Thursday that it has partnered with Sound Choice to launch the company's Karaoke Channel on its Internet TV service. The channel will be offered beginning in June for an additional $4.95 per month, or $2.95 for a 48-hour period.
