Tecmo Rejects Square Enix Bid; Seeks Merger With Koei

Tokyo - Japanese video game publisher Tecmo said on Thursday that it has rejected an up to $206 million takeover bid from fellow publisher Square Enix, and is instead in merger talks with game maker Koei, Reuters reported.

Burlingame, Calif. - Japanese video game publisher KOEI on Thursday announced the release of its "Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires" title for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2. The game was developed by KOEI's internal Omega Force team.

Burlingame, Calif. - Japanese video game publisher KOEI said on Thursday that it signed a deal with News Corp.'s IGN Entertainment, to exclusively distribute its "Dynasty Warriors 4 Hyper" PC game through IGN's Direct2Drive digital download store.

Japanese Game Developer KOEI Opens New Studio in Toronto

Toronto - Japanese video game publisher KOEI, developer of the "Dynasty Warriors" franchise, announced on Wednesday that it has opened a new development studio in Toronto, Canada. KOEI Canada is already working on two new titles, including "Fatal Inertia," slated as a launch title for Sony's PlayStation 3. The company said an initial staff of 30 at KOEI Canada will be expanded to between 150 and 200 over the next few years.
